Anas reported: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم performed ablution with a vessel which contained two rotls (of water) and took a bath with a sa’ (of water). 1 Abu Dawud Said: This tradition has berated on the authority of Anas through a different chain. This version mentions: “He performed ablution with one makkuk. “It makes no mention of two rotls. 2 Abu Dawud said: This tradition has also been narrated by Yahya bin Adam from Sharik. But this chain mentions Ibn Jabr bin ‘Atik instead of ‘ Abdullah bin Jabr. Abu Dawud Said: This tradition has also been narrated by Sufyan from Abdullah bin ‘Isa. This chain mentions the name Jabr bin Abdullah instead of Abdullah bin Jabr. Abu Dawud Said: I heard Ahmad bin Hanbal say: one sa’ measures five rotls. It was the sa’ of Ibn Abi Dhi’b and also of the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ الْبَزَّازُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عِيسَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَبْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَنَسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَتَوَضَّأُ بِإِنَاءٍ يَسَعُ رَطْلَيْنِ وَيَغْتَسِلُ بِالصَّاعِ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد:‏‏‏‏ رَوَاهُ يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ شَرِيكٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ عَنْ ابْنِ جَبْرِ بْنِ عَتِيكٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَرَوَاهُ سُفْيَانُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عِيسَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنِي جَبْرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد:‏‏‏‏ وَرَوَاهُ شُعْبَةُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَبْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏سَمِعْتُ أَنَسًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَتَوَضَّأُ بِمَكُّوكٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ رَطْلَيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد:‏‏‏‏ وسَمِعْت أَحْمَدَ بْنَ حَنْبَلٍ،‏‏‏‏ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ الصَّاعُ خَمْسَةُ أَرْطَالٍ وَهُوَ صَاعُ ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُوَ صَاعُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.

انس رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ایسے برتن سے وضو کرتے تھے جس میں دو رطل پانی آتا تھا، اور ایک صاع پانی سے غسل کرتے تھے۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: یحییٰ بن آدم نے اسے شریک سے روایت کیا ہے مگر اس روایت میں ( عبداللہ بن جبر کے بجائے ) ابن جبر بن عتیک ہے، نیز سفیان نے بھی اسے عبداللہ بن عیسیٰ سے روایت کیا ہے اس میں «حدثني جبر بن عبد الله‏.‏» ہے۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: اور اسے شعبہ نے بھی روایت کیا ہے، اس میں «حدثني عبد الله بن عبد الله بن جبر سمعت أنسا» ہے، مگر فرق یہ ہے کہ انہوں نے «يتوضأ بإناء يسع رطلين» کے بجائے: «يتوضأ بمكوك» کہا ہے اور «رطلين» کا ذکر نہیں کیا ہے۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: میں نے احمد بن حنبل کو کہتے سنا ہے کہ ایک صاع پانچ رطل کا ہوتا ہے، یہی ابن ابی ذئب کا صاع تھا اور یہی نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کا بھی صاع تھا۔

Narrated Abdullah ibn Mughaffal: Abdullah heard his son praying to Allah: O Allah, I ask Thee a white palace on the right of Paradise when I enter it. He said: O my son, ask Allah for Paradise and seek refuge in Him from Hell-Fire, for I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم say: In this community there will be some people who will exceed the limits in purification as well as in supplication.

Abdullah bin Amr reported: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم saw some people (performing ablution) while their heels were dry. He then said: Woe to the heels because of Hell. Perform the ablution in full

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: The prayer of a person who does not perform ablution is not valid, and the ablution of a person who does not mention the name of Allah (in the beginning) is not valid.
