Narrated Abdullah ibn Zayd: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم came upon us. We brought water for him in a brass vessel and he performed ablution.

حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ وَسَهْلُ بْنُ حَمَّادٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَا:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْعَمْرِو بْنِ يَحْيَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ جَاءَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَخْرَجْنَا لَهُ مَاءً فِي تَوْرٍ مِنْ صُفْرٍ فَتَوَضَّأَ .

عبداللہ بن زید رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ہمارے پاس تشریف لائے تو ہم نے ایک پیتل کے پیالے میں آپ کے لیے پانی نکالا اور آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے وضو کیا۔

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: The prayer of a person who does not perform ablution is not valid, and the ablution of a person who does not mention the name of Allah (in the beginning) is not valid.

Explaining the tradition of the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم that the ablution of a person who does not mention the name of Allah is valid, Rabiah said: This tradition means that if a person performs ablution and takes a bath but does not have the intention to perform ablution for prayer and purify himself from sexual defilement, his ablution or bath is not valid.

Abu Hurairah reported: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: When anyone amongst you wakes up from sleep at night, he should not put his hand in the utensil until he has washed his hand three times, for he does’ not know where his hand was during the night.

Abu Hurairah reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم say: When any of you wakes up from sleep, he should not put his hand in the utensil until he washes it three times, for none of you knows where his hand remained during the night or where it went round

Humran bin Abban, the freed slave of Uthman, said: I saw Uthman bin Affan while he performed ablution. He poured water over his hands three times and then washed them. He then rinsed his mouth and then cleansed his nose with water (three times). He then washed his right arm up to the elbow three times, then two rakhahs of prayer without allowing his thoughts to be distracted, Allah will pardon all his past sins washed his left arm in a similar manner; then wiped his head; then washed his right foot three times, then washed his left foot in a similar manner, and then said: I saw the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم performing ablution like this ablution of mine.
