Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Allah, Most High, has removed from you the pride of the pre-Islamic period and its boasting in ancestors. One is only a pious believer or a miserable sinner. You are sons of Adam, and Adam came from dust. Let the people cease to boast about their ancestors. They are merely fuel in Jahannam; or they will certainly be of less account with Allah than the beetle which rolls dung with its nose.

حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ مَرْوَانَ الرَّقِّيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعَافَي. ح وحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ وَهَذَا حَدِيثُهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ،‏‏‏‏عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَدْ أَذْهَبَ عَنْكُمْ عُبِّيَّةَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ وَفَخْرَهَا بِالْآبَاءِ:‏‏‏‏ مُؤْمِنٌ تَقِيٌّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَفَاجِرٌ شَقِيٌّ:‏‏‏‏ أَنْتُمْ بَنُو آدَمَ وَآدَمُ مِنْ تُرَابٍ لَيَدَعَنَّ رِجَالٌ فَخْرَهُمْ بِأَقْوَامٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِنَّمَا هُمْ فَحْمٌ مِنْ فَحْمِ جَهَنَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَوْ لَيَكُونُنَّ أَهْوَنَ عَلَى اللَّهِ مِنَ الْجِعْلَانِ الَّتِي تَدْفَعُ بِأَنْفِهَا النَّتِنَ .

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: بیشک اللہ تعالیٰ نے تم سے جاہلیت کی نخوت و غرور کو ختم کر دیا اور باپ دادا کا نام لے کر فخر کرنے سے روک دیا، ( اب دو قسم کے لوگ ہیں ) ایک متقی و پرہیزگار مومن، دوسرا بدبخت فاجر، تم سب آدم کی اولاد ہو، اور آدم مٹی سے پیدا ہوئے ہیں ۱؎، لوگوں کو اپنی قوموں پر فخر کرنا چھوڑ دینا چاہیئے کیونکہ ان کے آباء جہنم کے کوئلوں میں سے کوئلہ ہیں ( اس لیے کہ وہ کافر تھے، اور کوئلے پر فخر کرنے کے کیا معنی ) اگر انہوں نے اپنے آباء پر فخر کرنا نہ چھوڑا تو اللہ کے نزدیک اس گبریلے کیڑے سے بھی زیادہ ذلیل ہو جائیں گے، جو اپنی ناک سے گندگی کو ڈھکیل کر لے جاتا ہے ۔

Narrated Abdullah ibn Masud: If anyone helps his people in an unrighteous cause, he is like a camel which falls into a well and is pulled out by its tail.

Abdullah bin Masud said: I went to the prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم when he was in a skin tent. He then mentioned something similar to it.

Narrated Wathilah ibn al-Asqa: I asked: Messenger of Allah! what is party spirit? He replied: That you should help your people in wrongdoing.

Narrated Suraqah ibn Malik ibn Jusham al-Mudlaji: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم gave us an address and said: The best of you is the one who defends his tribe, so long as he commits no sin. Abu Dawud said: Abu Ayyub bin Suwaid is weak.

Jubair bin Mutim reported the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: he who summons others to party-spirit does not belong to us; and he who dies upholding party spirit does not belong to us. ’
