Ibn Shibab reported: 'Umar b. 'Abd al-'Aziz deferred the afternoon prayer somewhat and 'Urwa said to him: Gabriel came down and he led the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) in prayer. 'Umar said to him: O 'Urwa, are you aware of what you are saying? Upon this he ('Urwa) said: I heard Bashir b. Abu Mas'ud say that he heard Abu Mas'ud say that he heard the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) say: Gabriel came down and acted as my Imam, then I prayed with him, then I prayed with him, then I prayed with him. then I prayed with him. then I prayed with him. reckoning with his fingers five times of prayer.

دَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ، ح قَالَ: وَحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ رُمْحٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، أَخَّرَ الْعَصْرَ شَيْئًا، فَقَالَ لَهُ عُرْوَةُ: أَمَا إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ قَدْ نَزَلَ، فَصَلَّى إِمَامَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ: اعْلَمْ مَا تَقُولُ يَا عُرْوَةُ، فَقَالَ: سَمِعْتُ بَشِيرَ بْنَ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا مَسْعُودٍ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولُ: «نَزَلَ جِبْرِيلُ فَأَمَّنِي، فَصَلَّيْتُ مَعَهُ، ثُمَّ صَلَّيْتُ مَعَهُ، ثُمَّ صَلَّيْتُ مَعَهُ، ثُمَّ صَلَّيْتُ مَعَهُ، ثُمَّ صَلَّيْتُ مَعَهُ» يَحْسُبُ بِأَصَابِعِهِ خَمْسَ صَلَوَاتٍ

) لیث نے ابن شہاب سے روایت کی کہ ایک دن عمر بن عبدالعزیز نےعصر کی نمازمیں کچھ تاخیر کردی تو عروہ نے ان سے کہا : بات یوں ہے کہ جبریل ‌رضی ‌اللہ ‌عنہ ‌ ‌ نازل ہوئے اور امام بن کر رسول اللہ ﷺ کو نماز پڑھائی ۔ تو عمر ‌رضی ‌اللہ ‌عنہ ‌ ‌ نے ان سے کہا : اے عروہ ! جان لیں ( سمجھ لیں ) آپ کیا کہہ رہے ہیں ! انھوں نے کہا : میں نے بشیر بن ابی مسعود سے سنا ، وہ کہتے تھے : میں نے ابو مسعود ‌رضی ‌اللہ ‌عنہ ‌ ‌ سے سنا ، انھوں نے کہا ، میں نے رسول اللہ ﷺ سے سنا ، آپ نے فرما رہے تھے : ’’جبرئیل اترے اور انھوں نے ( نمازمیں ) میری امامت کی ، میں نے ان کے ساتھ نماز پڑھی ، پھر میں نے ان کے ساتھ نماز پڑھی ، پھر ان کے ساتھ نماز پڑھی ، پھر ان کے ساتھ نماز پڑھی ، پھر ان کے ساتھ نماز پڑھی ۔ ‘ ‘ وہ اپنی انگلیوں سے پانچ نمازیں شمار کرتے تھے ۔

Ibn Shihab reported: Umar b. 'Abd al-'Aziz one day deferred the prayer. 'Urwa b. Zubair came to him and informed him that one day as Mughira b. Shu'ba was in Kufa (as its governor), he deferred the prayer, Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari came to him and said: What is this, O Mughira? Did you know that it was Gabriel who came and said prayer and (then) the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said the prayer (along with him), then (Gabriel) prayed and the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) also prayed, then (Gabriel) prayed and the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) also prayed, then (Gabriel) prayed and the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) prayed (along with him). then Gabriel prayed and the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) also prayed (along with him) and then said: This is how I have been ordered to do. 'Umar (b. 'Abd al-'Aziz) said. O 'Urwa be mindful of what you are saying that Gabriel (peace be upon him) taught the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) the times of prayer. Upon this 'Urwa said: This is how Bashir b. Abu Mas'ud narrated on the authority of his father

Urwah (also) said: 'A'isha?, the wife of the Apostle ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) narrated it to me that the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) used to say the afternoon prayer, when the light of the sun was there in her apartment before it went out (of it).

A'isha reported: The Apostle of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said the afternoon prayer as the sun shone in my apartment, and the afternoon shadow did not extend further. Abu Bakr said: The afternoon shadow did not appear to extend further.

A'isha, the wife of the Apostle ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ), said that the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said the afternoon prayer (at the time) when the sun shone in her apartment and its shadow did not extend beyond her apartment.

It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin 'Amr that the Prophet ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said: When you pray Fajr, its time is until the first part of the sun appears. When you pray Zuhr, its time is until 'Asr comes. When you pray 'Asr, its time is until the sun turns yellow. When you pray Maghrib, its time is until the twilight has disappeared. When you pray 'Isha, its time is until half of the night has passed.
