Ibn Shihab reported: Umar b. 'Abd al-'Aziz one day deferred the prayer. 'Urwa b. Zubair came to him and informed him that one day as Mughira b. Shu'ba was in Kufa (as its governor), he deferred the prayer, Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari came to him and said: What is this, O Mughira? Did you know that it was Gabriel who came and said prayer and (then) the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said the prayer (along with him), then (Gabriel) prayed and the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) also prayed, then (Gabriel) prayed and the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) also prayed, then (Gabriel) prayed and the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) prayed (along with him). then Gabriel prayed and the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) also prayed (along with him) and then said: This is how I have been ordered to do. 'Umar (b. 'Abd al-'Aziz) said. O 'Urwa be mindful of what you are saying that Gabriel (peace be upon him) taught the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) the times of prayer. Upon this 'Urwa said: This is how Bashir b. Abu Mas'ud narrated on the authority of his father

أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى التَّمِيمِيُّ، قَالَ: قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، أَخَّرَ الصَّلَاةَ يَوْمًا، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ، فَأَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ الْمُغِيرَةَ بْنَ شُعْبَةَ أَخَّرَ الصَّلَاةَ يَوْمًا وَهُوَ بِالْكُوفَةِ، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ، فَقَالَ: مَا هَذَا؟ يَا مُغِيرَةُ أَلَيْسَ قَدْ عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ جِبْرِيلَ نَزَلَ فَصَلَّى، فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى، فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى، فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى، فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى، فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «بِهَذَا أُمِرْتُ» فَقَالَ عُمَرُ لِعُرْوَةَ: انْظُرْ مَا تُحَدِّثُ يَا عُرْوَةُ، أَوَ إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ هُوَ أَقَامَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقْتَ الصَّلَاةِ، فَقَالَ عُرْوَةُ: كَذَلِكَ كَانَ بَشِيرُ بْنُ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

امام مالک نے ابن شہاب زہری سے روایت کی کہ ایک دن عمر بن عبدالعزیز نے نماز میں تاخیر کر دی تو عروہ بن زبیر ان کے پاس آئے اور انھیں بتایا کہ مغیر ہ بن شعبہ ‌رضی ‌اللہ ‌عنہ ‌ ‌ نے ایک دن نماز دیر سے پڑھی اس وقت وہ کوفہ میں تھے ابو مسعود انصاری رحمۃ اللہ علیہ ان کے پاس آئے اور کہا : مغیرہ !یہ کیا ہے ؟ کیا آپ کو پتہ نہیں کہ جبریل ‌علیہ ‌السلام ‌ اترے تھے ، انھوں نے نماز پڑھائی تو رسول اللہ ﷺ نے ( ان کے ساتھ ) نماز پڑھی ، پھر انھوں نے نماز پڑھی تو رسول اللہ ﷺ نے نماز پڑھی ، پھر انوں نے نماز پڑھی اور رسول اللہ ﷺ نے ( ان کے ساتھ ) نماز پڑھی ، پھر انھوں نے نماز پڑھی تو رسو ل اللہ ﷺ نے ( ان کے ساتھ ) نماز پڑھی ، پھر ( جبرئیل نے ) کہا : مجھے اس کا حکم دیا گیا ہے ۔ تو عمر نے عروہ سے کہا : عروہ ! دیکھ لو ، کیا کہہ رہے ہو ؟ کیا جبرئیل نے خود ( آکر ) رسول ) اللہ ﷺ کے لیے ( ہر ) نماز کا وقت متعین کیا تھا ؟ تو عروہ نے کہا بشر بن ابی مسعود اپنے والد سے ایسے ہی بیان کرتے تھے ۔

Urwah (also) said: 'A'isha?, the wife of the Apostle ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) narrated it to me that the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) used to say the afternoon prayer, when the light of the sun was there in her apartment before it went out (of it).

A'isha reported: The Apostle of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said the afternoon prayer as the sun shone in my apartment, and the afternoon shadow did not extend further. Abu Bakr said: The afternoon shadow did not appear to extend further.

A'isha, the wife of the Apostle ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ), said that the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said the afternoon prayer (at the time) when the sun shone in her apartment and its shadow did not extend beyond her apartment.

A'isha reported: The Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said the afternoon prayer (at a time) when the (light) of the sun was there in my apartment.

It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin 'Amr that the Prophet ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) said: When you pray Fajr, its time is until the first part of the sun appears. When you pray Zuhr, its time is until 'Asr comes. When you pray 'Asr, its time is until the sun turns yellow. When you pray Maghrib, its time is until the twilight has disappeared. When you pray 'Isha, its time is until half of the night has passed.

Abdullah b. 'Amr reported the Apostle ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) saying: The time of the noon prayer (lasts) as long as it is not afternoon, and the time of the afternoon prayer (lasts) as long as the sun does not turn pale and the time of the evening prayer (lasts) as long as the spreading appearance of the redness above the horizon after sunset does not sink down, and the, time of the night prayer (lasts) by midnight and the time of the morning prayer (lasts) as long as the sun dots not rise.
