Ali b. Abi Talib reported: The Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) forbade me to recite (the Qur'an) in a state of bowing and prostration.

وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ كَثِيرٍ، حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ حُنَيْنٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، يَقُولُ: «نَهَانِي رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ قِرَاءَةِ الْقُرْآنِ وَأَنَا رَاكِعٌ أَوْ سَاجِدٌ

۔ ابن شہاب زہری نے کہا : مجھے ابراہیم بن عبد اللہ بن حنین نے حدیث سنائی کہ ان کے والد نے ان سے بیان کیا ، انہوں نے حضرت علی بن ابی طالب ‌رضی ‌اللہ ‌عنہ ‌ ‌ سے سنا ، انہوں نے کہا کہ مجھے رسول اللہﷺ نے رکوع اور سجدے میں قرآن پڑھنے سے منع فرمایا ۔

Ali b. Abi Talib reported: The Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) forbade to recite the Qur'an, while I am in the state of bowing and prostration.

Ali b. Abi Talib reported: The Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) forbade me from the recitation (of the Qur'an) in bowing and prostration and I do not say that he forbade you.

This hadith has been narrated by some other narrators, Ibn 'Abbas and others, and they all reported that 'Ali said: The Apostle of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) forbade me to recite the Qur'an while I am in a state of bowing and prostration, and in their narration (there is a mention of) forbiddance from that (recital) in the state of prostration as it has been transmitted by Zuhri, Zaid b. Aslam, al-Wahid b. Kathir, and Dawud b. Qais.
