Abu Qatadah narrated: They asked the Prophet about when they sIept past the Salat. He said: 'There is no negligence in sleep, negligence is only while one is awake. So when one of you forgets a Salat, or sleeps through it, then let him pray it when he remembers it.'

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ رَبَاحٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ ذَكَرُوا لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَوْمَهُمْ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ فِي النَّوْمِ تَفْرِيطٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِنَّمَا التَّفْرِيطُ فِي الْيَقَظَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِذَا نَسِيَ أَحَدُكُمْ صَلَاةً أَوْ نَامَ عَنْهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلْيُصَلِّهَا إِذَا ذَكَرَهَا . وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَأَبِي مَرْيَمَ،‏‏‏‏ وَعِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَجُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَأَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ،‏‏‏‏ وَأَبِي سَعِيدٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَعَمْرِو بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ الضَّمْرِيِّ،‏‏‏‏ وَذِي مِخْبَرٍ وَيُقَالُ:‏‏‏‏ ذِي مِخْمَرٍ وَهُوَ ابْنُ أَخِي النَّجَاشِيِّ. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ وَحَدِيثُ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدِ اخْتَلَفَ أَهْلُ الْعِلْمِ فِي الرَّجُلِ يَنَامُ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ أَوْ يَنْسَاهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَيَسْتَيْقِظُ أَوْ يَذْكُرُ وَهُوَ فِي غَيْرِ وَقْتِ صَلَاةٍ عِنْدَ طُلُوعِ الشَّمْسِ أَوْ عِنْدَ غُرُوبِهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ بَعْضُهُمْ يُصَلِّيهَا إِذَا اسْتَيْقَظَ أَوْ ذَكَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِنْ كَانَ عِنْدَ طُلُوعِ الشَّمْسِ أَوْ عِنْدَ غُرُوبِهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُوَ قَوْلُ أَحْمَدَ،‏‏‏‏ وَإِسْحَاق،‏‏‏‏ وَالشَّافِعِيِّ،‏‏‏‏ وَمَالِكٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ:‏‏‏‏ لَا يُصَلِّي حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ أَوْ تَغْرُبَ.

ابوقتادہ رضی الله عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ لوگوں نے نبی اکرم صلی الله علیہ وسلم سے نماز سے اپنے سو جانے کا ذکر کیا تو آپ نے فرمایا: ”سو جانے میں قصور اور کمی نہیں۔ قصور اور کمی تو جاگنے میں ہے، ( کہ جاگتا رہے اور نہ پڑھے ) لہٰذا تم میں سے کوئی جب نماز بھول جائے، یا نماز سے سو جائے، تو جب اسے یاد آئے پڑھ لے“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- ابوقتادہ کی حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- اس باب میں ابن مسعود، ابومریم، عمران بن حصین، جبیر بن مطعم، ابوجحیفہ، ابوسعید، عمرو بن امیہ ضمری اور ذومخمر ( جنہیں ذومخبر بھی کہا جاتا ہے، اور یہ نجاشی کے بھتیجے ہیں ) رضی الله عنہم سے بھی احادیث آئی ہیں، ۳- اہل علم کے درمیان اس شخص کے بارے میں اختلاف ہے کہ جو نماز سے سو جائے یا اسے بھول جائے اور ایسے وقت میں جاگے یا اسے یاد آئے جو نماز کا وقت نہیں مثلاً سورج نکل رہا ہو یا ڈوب رہا ہو تو بعض لوگ کہتے ہیں کہ اسے پڑھ لے جب جاگے یا یاد آئے گو سورج نکلنے کا یا ڈوبنے کا وقت ہو، یہی احمد، اسحاق بن راہویہ، شافعی اور مالک کا قول ہے۔ اور بعض کہتے ہیں کہ جب تک سورج نکل نہ جائے یا ڈوب نہ جائے نہ پڑھے۔ پہلا قول ہی راجح ہے، کیونکہ یہ نماز سبب والی ( قضاء ) ہے اور سبب والی میں وقت کی پابندی نہیں ہے۔

Anas (bin Malik) narrated that : Allah's Messenger said: Whoever forgets a Salat then he is to pray it when he remembers it.

Abdullah (bin Mas'ud] narrated: The idolaters kept Allah's Messenger distracted from four prayers on the Day of Al-Khandaq (the battle of the Trench) until as much as Allah willed of the night had passed. So he ordered Bilal to call the Adhan, then he called the Iqamah to Zuhr, then he called the Iqamah to pray Asr, then he called the Iqamah to pray Maghrib, then he called the Iqamah to pray Isha.

Jabir bin Abdullah narrated: On the Day of Al-Khandaq (the battle of the Trench), Umar bin Al-Khattab came cursing the disbelievers of Quraish and said: 'O Allah's Messenger! I could not offer he Asr prayer until the sun was about to set.' The Prophet said: 'By Allah! I too have not offered the Salat.' So he said: We descended into Buthan, Allah's Messenger performed Wudu and we too performed Wudu. Allah's Messenger prayed Asr after the sun had set, then after it he prayed Maghrib.

Abdullah bin Mas'ud narrated that : Allah's Messenger said: Salatul-Wusta is the Asr prayer.

Smurah bin Jundub narrated that : the Prophet said: Salatul-wusta is the Asr prayer.

Ibn Abbas narrated: I head more than one of the Companions of the Prophet; Umar bin Al-Khattab among, and he was one of the most beloved among them to me - (narrating) that Allah's Messenger prohibited the Salat after Fajr until the sun had risen, and the Salat after Asr until the sun had set.
