Ibn Abbas narrated: I head more than one of the Companions of the Prophet; Umar bin Al-Khattab among, and he was one of the most beloved among them to me - (narrating) that Allah's Messenger prohibited the Salat after Fajr until the sun had risen, and the Salat after Asr until the sun had set.

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَنْصُورٌ وَهُوَ ابْنُ زَاذَانَ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْعَالِيَةِ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَال:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ غَيْرَ وَاحِدٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏مِنْهُمْ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ، وَكَانَ مِنْ أَحَبِّهِمْ إِلَيَّ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ بَعْدَ الْفَجْرِ حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَعَنِ الصَّلَاةِ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ حَتَّى تَغْرُبَ الشَّمْسُ . قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ عَلِيٍّ،‏‏‏‏ وَابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَعُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَأَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ،‏‏‏‏ وَابْنِ عُمَرَ،‏‏‏‏ وَسَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدَبٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو،‏‏‏‏ وَمُعَاذِ ابْنِ عَفْرَاءَ،‏‏‏‏ وَالصُّنَابِحِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَمْ يَسْمَعْ مِنَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَسَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْأَكْوَعِ،‏‏‏‏ وَزَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَعَائِشَةَ،‏‏‏‏ وَكَعْبِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ،‏‏‏‏ وَأَبِي أُمَامَةَ،‏‏‏‏ وَعَمْرِو بْنِ عَبَسَةَ،‏‏‏‏ وَيَعْلَى بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ،‏‏‏‏ وَمُعَاوِيَةَ. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ حَدِيثُ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عُمَرَ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُوَ قَوْلُ أَكْثَرِ الْفُقَهَاءِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمَنْ بَعْدَهُمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهُمْ كَرِهُوا الصَّلَاةَ بَعْدَ صَلَاةِ الصُّبْحِ حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَبَعْدَ صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ حَتَّى تَغْرُبَ الشَّمْسُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَمَّا الصَّلَوَاتُ الْفَوَائِتُ فَلَا بَأْسَ أَنْ تُقْضَى بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ وَبَعْدَ الصُّبْحِ. قَالَ عَلِيُّ ابْنُ الْمَدِينِيِّ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ شُعْبَةُ:‏‏‏‏ لَمْ يَسْمَعْ قَتَادَةُ مِنْ أَبِي الْعَالِيَةِ إِلَّا ثَلَاثَةَ أَشْيَاءَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدِيثَ عُمَرَ:‏‏‏‏ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ حَتَّى تَغْرُبَ الشَّمْسُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَبَعْدَ الصُّبْحِ حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَحَدِيثَ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَال:‏‏‏‏ لَا يَنْبَغِي لِأَحَدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى ،‏‏‏‏ وَحَدِيثَ عَلِيٍّ الْقُضَاةُ ثَلَاثَةٌ.

عبداللہ بن عباس رضی الله عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے صحابہ کرام رضی الله عنہم میں سے کئی لوگوں سے ( جن میں عمر بن خطاب بھی ہیں اور وہ مجھے سب سے زیادہ محبوب ہیں ) سنا کہ رسول اللہ صلی الله علیہ وسلم نے فجر کے بعد جب تک کہ سورج نکل نہ آئے ۱؎ اور عصر کے بعد جب تک کہ ڈوب نہ جائے نماز ۲؎ پڑھنے سے منع فرمایا ہے۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- ابن عباس کی حدیث جسے انہوں نے عمر سے روایت کی ہے، حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- اس باب میں علی، ابن مسعود، عقبہ بن عامر، ابوہریرہ، ابن عمر، سمرہ بن جندب، عبداللہ بن عمرو، معاذ بن عفراء، صنابحی ( نبی اکرم صلی الله علیہ وسلم سے انہوں نے نہیں سنا ہے ) سلمہ بن اکوع، زید بن ثابت، عائشہ، کعب بن مرہ، ابوامامہ، عمرو بن عبسہ، یعلیٰ ابن امیہ اور معاویہ رضی الله عنہم سے بھی احادیث آئی ہیں، ۳- صحابہ کرام اور ان کے بعد کے لوگوں میں سے اکثر فقہاء کا یہی قول ہے کہ انہوں نے فجر کے بعد سورج نکلنے تک اور عصر کے بعد سورج ڈوبنے تک نماز پڑھنے کو مکروہ جانا ہے، رہیں فوت شدہ نمازیں تو انہیں عصر کے بعد یا فجر کے بعد قضاء کرنے میں کوئی حرج نہیں، ۴- شعبہ کہتے ہیں کہ قتادہ نے ابوالعالیہ سے صرف تین چیزیں سنی ہیں۔ ایک عمر رضی الله عنہ کی حدیث جس میں ہے کہ نبی اکرم صلی الله علیہ وسلم نے عصر کے بعد نماز پڑھنے سے منع فرمایا ہے جب تک کہ سورج نہ ڈوب جائے، اور فجر کے بعد بھی جب تک کہ سورج نکل نہ آئے، اور ( دوسری ) ابن عباس رضی الله عنہما کی حدیث جسے انہوں نے نبی اکرم صلی الله علیہ وسلم سے روایت کی ہے کہ آپ نے فرمایا: ”تم میں سے کسی کے لیے یہ مناسب نہیں کہ وہ یہ کہے کہ میں یونس بن متی سے بہتر ہوں اور ( تیسری ) علی رضی الله عنہ کی حدیث کہ قاضی تین قسم کے ہوتے ہیں“۔

Ibn Abbas narrated: The Prophet only performed the two rak'ah (units of prayer) after Asr because some wealth came to him which distracted him from the two rak'ah after Zuhr, so he prayed them after Asr, then he did not repeat that.

Abdullah bin Mughaffal narrated that : the Prophet said: Between every two calls (to prayer) there is a Salat for whoever wills.

Abu Hurairah narrated that : the Prophet said: Whoever catches a Rak'ah of Subh before the sun has risen, then he has caught Subh. Whoever catches a Rak'ah of Asr before the sun has set, then he has caught Asr.

Ibn Abbas said: Allah's Messenger combined the Zuhr and Asr (prayers), and the Maghrib and Isha (prayers) in Al-Madinah, without being in a state of fear, nor due to rain.

Ibn Abbas narrated that : the Prophet said: Whoever combines two prayers without any excuse then he has committed something from the major sins.

Albdullah bin Zaid narrated: When we awoke, we went to Allah's Messenger to inform him of the dream. He said: 'Indeed this dream is true. So go to Bilal, for he has a better and louder voice than you. Convey to him what was said to you, so that he may call (to the prayer) with that.' He said: When Umar bin Al-Khattab heard Bilal calling for the prayer he went to Allah's Messenger, and he was dragging his Izar, (as he was hurrying) saying: 'O Allah's Messenger! By the One Who sent you with the truth! I dreamt the same as what he said.''' He said: So Allah's Messenger said: 'To Allah is the praise, so that confirms it even more.'''
