It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that: He saw Sa'd bin Malik wiping over his leather socks and said: Is it you doing this? They both went to 'Umar and Sa'd said to 'Umar: Give my brother's son a verdict regarding wiping over leather socks. 'Umar said: We used to wipe over our leather socks when we were with the Messenger of Allah and we do not see anything wrong with that. Ibn 'Umar said: Even if that is after one has defecated? He said: Yes.

حَدَّثَنَا عِمْرَانُ بْنُ مُوسَى اللَّيْثِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَوَاءٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ نَافِعٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْابْنِ عُمَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهُ رَأَى سَعْدَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُوَ يَمْسَحُ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّكُمْ لَتَفْعَلُونَ ذَلِكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَاجْتَمَعْنَا عِنْدَ عُمَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ لِعُمَرَ:‏‏‏‏ أَفْتِ ابْنَ أَخِي فِي الْمَسْحِ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ عُمَرُ:‏‏‏‏ كُنَّا وَنَحْنُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَمْسَحُ عَلَى خِفَافِنَا لَمْ نَرَ بِذَلِكَ بَأْسًا ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ:‏‏‏‏ وَإِنْ جَاءَ مِنَ الْغَائِطِ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ نَعَمْ.

عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ انہوں نے سعد بن مالک ( سعد بن مالک ابن ابی وقاص ) رضی اللہ عنہ کو موزوں پر مسح کرتے ہوئے دیکھا تو کہا: کیا آپ لوگ بھی ایسا کرتے ہیں؟ وہ دونوں عمر رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس اکٹھا ہوئے اور سعد بن ابی وقاص رضی اللہ عنہ نے عمر رضی اللہ عنہ سے کہا: میرے بھتیجے کو موزوں پر مسح کا مسئلہ بتائیے، تو عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: ہم رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ہمراہ ہوتے تھے، اور اپنے موزوں پر مسح کرتے تھے، اور اس میں کوئی حرج نہیں سمجھتے تھے، ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہا: خواہ کوئی بیت الخلاء سے آئے؟ فرمایا: ہاں۔

Abdul-Muhaimin bin 'Abbas bin Sahl As-Sa'idi narrated from his father, from his grandfather: The Messenger of Allah wiped over his leather socks and he ordered us to wipe over the leather socks.

It was narrated that Anas bin Malik said: I was with the Messenger of Allah on a journey, and he said: 'Is there any water?' He performed ablution and wiped over his leather socks, then he joined the army and led them (in prayer).

It was narrated from Abu Buraidah from his father that: An-Najashi gave the Prophet a gift of a pair of plain black leather socks. He put them on, then he (performed ablution and) wiped over them.

It was narrated that Jabir said: The Messenger of Allah passed by a man who was performing ablution and washing his leather socks. He gestures with his hand, (and said): 'Rather I have been commanded to wipe them.' The Messenger of Allah gestured with his hand like this, from the tips of the toes to the base of the shin, tracing lines with his fingers.

It was narrated that Shuraih bin Hani' said: I asked 'Aishah about wiping over the leather socks and she said: 'Go to 'Ali and ask him, for he knows more about that than I do.' So I went to 'Ali and asked him about wiping. He said: 'The Messenger of Allah used to tell us that the resident could wipe for one day and one night, and the traveler could do so for three days.'
