It was narrated from 'Uqbah bin 'Amir that the Messenger of Allah said: The expiation for vows is the expiation for an oath.

أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ،‏‏‏‏ أَنَّ كَثِيرَ بْنَ فَرْقَدٍ حَدَّثَهُ،‏‏‏‏ أَنَّنَافِعًا حَدَّثَهُمْ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ مَنْ حَلَفَ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ فَقَدِ اسْتَثْنَى .

عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: جس نے قسم کھائی اور ان شاءاللہ کہا تو اس نے استثناء کر لیا ۱؎۔
