Narrated Ibn Mughaffal: The Messenger of Allaah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ordered the killing of the dogs, and then said: Why are they (people) after them (dogs)? and then granted permission (to keep) for hunting and for (the security) of the herd, and said: When the dog licks the utensil wash it seven times, and rub it with earth the eighth time. Abu Dawud said: Ibn Mughaffal narrated in a similar way.
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو التَّيَّاحِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ ابْنِ مُغَفَّلٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَ بِقَتْلِ الْكِلَابِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ قَالَ مَا لَهُمْ وَلَهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَرَخَّصَ فِي كَلْبِ الصَّيْدِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَفِي كَلْبِ الْغَنَمِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا وَلَغَ الْكَلْبُ فِي الْإِنَاءِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَاغْسِلُوهُ سَبْعَ مِرَارٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالثَّامِنَةُ عَفِّرُوهُ بِالتُّرَابِ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد:‏‏‏‏ وَهَكَذَا قَالَ ابْنُ مُغَفَّلٍ.
عبداللہ بن مغفل رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے کتوں کو قتل کرنے کا حکم دیا پھر فرمایا: لوگوں کو ان سے کیا سروکار؟ ۱؎، پھر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے شکاری کتوں اور بکریوں کے نگراں کتوں کے پالنے کی اجازت دی، اور فرمایا: جب کتا برتن میں منہ ڈال دے، تو اسے سات بار دھوؤ اور آٹھویں بار مٹی سے مانجھو ۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: ابن مغفل نے ایسا ہی کہا ہے۔

Narrated Abu Qatadah: Kabshah, daughter of Kab ibn Malik and wife of Ibn Abu Qatadah, reported: Abu Qatadah visited (me) and I poured out water for him for ablution. A cat came and drank some of it and he tilted the vessel for it until it drank some of it. Kabshah said: He saw me looking at him; he asked me: Are you surprised, my niece? I said: Yes. He then reported the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: It is not unclean; it is one of those (males or females) who go round among you.

Narrated Aishah, Ummul Muminin: Dawud ibn Salih ibn Dinar at-Tammar quoted his mother as saying that her mistress sent her with some pudding (harisah) to Aishah who was offering prayer. She made a sign to me to place it down. A cat came and ate some of it, but when Aishah finished her prayer, she ate from the place where the cat had eaten. She stated: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: It is not unclean: it is one of those who go round among you. She added: I saw the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم performing ablution from the water left over by the cat.
