Safiyyah said: When the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم was observing Itikaf (in the mosque), I would come to him to visit him. I had a talk with him and then stood up. I then returned and he (the Prophet) also stood up to accompany me (to my house). Her dwelling place was in the house of Usamah bin Zaid. Two men from the Ansar (helpers) passed (by him at the moment). When they saw the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم, they walked quickly. The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Be at ease, she is Safiyyah daughter of Huyayy. They said: Be glory to Allah, Messenger of Allah! He said: Satan runs in man like blood. I feared he might inspire something in your mind, or he said: evil (the narrator doubted).

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنُ شَبُّوَيْهِ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حُسَيْنٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ صَفِيَّةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُعْتَكِفًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَتَيْتُهُ أَزُورُهُ لَيْلًا فَحَدَّثْتُهُ ثُمَّ قُمْتُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَانْقَلَبْتُ فَقَامَ مَعِي لِيَقْلِبَنِي ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَكَانَ مَسْكَنُهَا فِي دَارِ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ. فَمَرَّ رَجُلَانِ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَمَّا رَأَيَا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَسْرَعَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ عَلَى رِسْلِكُمَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِنَّهَا صَفِيَّةُ بِنْتُ حُيَيٍّ. قَالَا:‏‏‏‏ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ. قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَجْرِي مِنَ الْإِنْسَانِ مَجْرَى الدَّمِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَخَشِيتُ أَنْ يَقْذِفَ فِي قُلُوبِكُمَا شَيْئًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَوْ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ شَرًّا.

ام المؤمنین صفیہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم معتکف تھے تو میں رات میں ملاقات کی غرض سے آپ کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوئی، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے میں نے بات چیت کی، پھر میں کھڑی ہو کر چلنے لگی تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم بھی مجھے واپس کرنے کے لیے کھڑے ہو گئے، ( اس وقت ان کی رہائش اسامہ بن زید رضی اللہ عنہما کے مکان میں تھی ) اتنے میں دو انصاری وہاں سے گزرے، وہ آپ کو دیکھ کر تیزی سے نکلنے لگے، نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ٹھہرو، یہ صفیہ بنت حیی ( میری بیوی ) ہے ( ایسا نہ ہو کہ تمہیں کوئی غلط فہمی ہو جائے ) ، وہ بولے: سبحان اللہ! اللہ کے رسول! ( آپ کے متعلق ایسی بدگمانی ہو ہی نہیں سکتی ) آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: شیطان انسان کی رگوں میں خون کی طرح دوڑتا ہے، مجھے اندیشہ ہوا کہ کہیں وہ تمہارے دل میں کچھ ( یا کہا: کوئی شر ) نہ ڈال دے ۔

According to the version of Al Nufaili, Aishah said “The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم used to pass by a patient while he was observing I’tikaf (in the mosque) but he passed as usual and did not stay asking about him. ” According to the version of Ibn Isa she said “The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم would visit a patient while he was observing I’tikaf. ”

Narrated Aishah, Ummul Muminin: The sunnah for one who is observing Itikaf (in a mosque) is not to visit a patient, or to attend a funeral, or touch or embrace one's wife, or go out for anything but necessary purposes. There is no Itikaf without fasting, and there is no Itikaf except in a congregational mosque.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar: Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) took a vow in the pre-Islamic days to spend a night or a day in devotion near the Kabah (in the sacred mosque). He asked the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم about it. He said: Observe Itikaf (i. e. spend a night or a day near the Kabah) and fast.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar: The tradition mentioned above (No. 2468) has also been transmitted by Abdullah ibn Budayl through a different chain of narrators in a similar way. This version adds: While he (Umar) was observing Itikaf (in the sacred mosque), the people uttered (loudly): Allah is most great. He said: What is this, Abdullah? He said: These are the captives of the Hawazin whom the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم has set free. He said: This slave-girl too? He sent her along with them.

Aishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said “One of the wives of the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم observed I’tikaf along with him (in the mosque). She would see yellowness and redness. Sometimes we would place a washbasin while she prayed. ”

Abu Saeed Al Khudri said “A Bedouin asked the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم about emigration. He replied “Woe to you! The matter of emigration is severe. Have you a Camel? He said, Yes. He asked “Do you pay its zakat? He said, Yes. He said, Then work (anywhere) beyond the seas. Allaah will not reduce anything from (the reward of) your work.
