Narrated Aishah, Ummul Muminin: The sunnah for one who is observing Itikaf (in a mosque) is not to visit a patient, or to attend a funeral, or touch or embrace one's wife, or go out for anything but necessary purposes. There is no Itikaf without fasting, and there is no Itikaf except in a congregational mosque.

حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ بَقِيَّةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ إِسْحَاقَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ السُّنَّةُ عَلَى الْمُعْتَكِفِ أَنْ لَا يَعُودَ مَرِيضًا وَلَا يَشْهَدَ جَنَازَةً وَلَا يَمَسَّ امْرَأَةً وَلَا يُبَاشِرَهَا وَلَا يَخْرُجَ لِحَاجَةٍ إِلَّا لِمَا لَا بُدَّ مِنْهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا اعْتِكَافَ إِلَّا بِصَوْمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا اعْتِكَافَ إِلَّا فِي مَسْجِدٍ جَامِعٍ . قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد:‏‏‏‏ غَيْرُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏لَا يَقُولُ فِيهِ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ السُّنَّةُ. قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد:‏‏‏‏ جَعَلَهُ قَوْلَ عَائِشَةَ.

ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ سنت یہ ہے کہ اعتکاف کرنے والا کسی مریض کی عیادت نہ کرے، نہ جنازے میں شریک ہو، نہ عورت کو چھوئے، اور نہ ہی اس سے مباشرت کرے، اور نہ کسی ضرورت سے نکلے سوائے ایسی ضرورت کے جس کے بغیر کوئی چارہ نہ ہو، اور بغیر روزے کے اعتکاف نہیں، اور جامع مسجد کے سوا کہیں اور اعتکاف نہیں۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: عبدالرحمٰن کے علاوہ دوسروں کی روایت میں «قالت السنة» کا لفظ نہیں ہے۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: انہوں نے اسے ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا کا قول قرار دیا ہے۔

Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar: Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) took a vow in the pre-Islamic days to spend a night or a day in devotion near the Kabah (in the sacred mosque). He asked the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم about it. He said: Observe Itikaf (i. e. spend a night or a day near the Kabah) and fast.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar: The tradition mentioned above (No. 2468) has also been transmitted by Abdullah ibn Budayl through a different chain of narrators in a similar way. This version adds: While he (Umar) was observing Itikaf (in the sacred mosque), the people uttered (loudly): Allah is most great. He said: What is this, Abdullah? He said: These are the captives of the Hawazin whom the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم has set free. He said: This slave-girl too? He sent her along with them.

Aishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said “One of the wives of the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم observed I’tikaf along with him (in the mosque). She would see yellowness and redness. Sometimes we would place a washbasin while she prayed. ”

Abu Saeed Al Khudri said “A Bedouin asked the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم about emigration. He replied “Woe to you! The matter of emigration is severe. Have you a Camel? He said, Yes. He asked “Do you pay its zakat? He said, Yes. He said, Then work (anywhere) beyond the seas. Allaah will not reduce anything from (the reward of) your work.

Miqdan bin Shuraih reported on the authority of his father. I asked Aishah about settling in the desert (to worship Allaah in loneliness). She said “The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم would go out (from Madina) to these torrential streams. Once he intended to go out to the desert (for worshipping Allaah). He sent me a She-Camel from the Camels of sadaqah that was not used as a mount. He said to me “Aishah be lenient, for leniency makes a thing decorated and when it is removed from a thing it makes it defective.

Narrated Muawiyah: I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم say: Migration will not end until repentance ends, and repentance will not end until the sun rises in the west.
