Imran b. Husain reported:
I was with the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) in a journey. We travelled the whole of the night, and when it was about to dawn, we got down for rest, and were overpowered (by sleep) till the sun shone. Abu Bakr was the first to awake amongst us. and we did not awake the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) from his sleep allowing him to wake up (of his own accord). It was 'Umar who then woke up. He stood by the side of the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) and recited takbir in a loud voice till the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) woke up. When he lifted his head, he saw that the sun had arisen; he then said: Proceed on. He travelled along with us till the sun shone brightly. He came down (from his camel) and led us in the morning prayer. A person, however, remained away from the people and did not say, prayer along with us. After having completed the prayer, the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) said to him: O, so and so, what prevented you from observing prayer with us? He said: Apostle of Allah! I was not in a state of purity. The Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) ordered him arid lie performed Tayammum with dust and said prayer. He then urged me to go ahead immediately along with other riders to find out water, for we felt very thirsty. We were traveling when we came across a woman who was sitting (on a camel) with her feet hanging over two leathern water bags. We said to her: How far is water available? She, said: Far, very far, very far. You cannot get water. We (again) said: How much distance is there between (the residence of) your family and water? She said: It is a day and night journey. We said to her: You go to the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ). She said: Who is the Messenger of Allah? We somehow or the other managed to bring her to the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) and he asked about her, and she informed him as she had informed us that she was a widow having orphan children. He ordered that her camel should be made to kneal down and he gargled in the opening (of her leathern water-bag). The camel was then raised up and we forty thirsty men drank water till we were completely satiated, and we filled up all leathern water-bags and water-skins that we had with us and we washed our companions, but we did not make any camel drink, and (the leathern water-bags) were about to burst (on account of excess of water). He then said: Bring whatever you have with you. So we collected the bits (of estable things) and dates and packed them up in a bundle, and said to her: Take it away. This is meant for your children, and know that we have not its any way done any loss to your water. W hen she came to her family she said: I have met the greatest magician amongst human beings, or he is an apostle, as he claims to be, and she then narrated what had happened and Allah guided aright those people through that woman. She affirmed her faith in Islam and so did the people embrace Islam.
وَحَدَّثَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ صَخْرٍ الدَّارِمِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَجِيدِ، حَدَّثَنَا سَلْمُ بْنُ زَرِيرٍ الْعُطَارِدِيُّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا رَجَاءٍ الْعُطَارِدِيَّ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ، قَالَ: كُنْتُ مَعَ نَبِيِّ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي مَسِيرٍ لَهُ، فَأَدْلَجْنَا لَيْلَتَنَا، حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ فِي وَجْهِ الصُّبْحِ عَرَّسْنَا، فَغَلَبَتْنَا أَعْيُنُنَا حَتَّى بَزَغَتِ الشَّمْسُ، قَالَ: فَكَانَ أَوَّلَ مَنِ اسْتَيْقَظَ مِنَّا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، وَكُنَّا لَا نُوقِظُ نَبِيَّ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ مَنَامِهِ إِذَا نَامَ [ص:475] حَتَّى يَسْتَيْقِظَ، ثُمَّ اسْتَيْقَظَ عُمَرُ، فَقَامَ عِنْدَ نَبِيِّ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَجَعَلَ يُكَبِّرُ، وَيَرْفَعُ صَوْتَهُ بِالتَّكْبِيرِ حَتَّى اسْتَيْقَظَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَلَمَّا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ، وَرَأَى الشَّمْسَ قَدْ بَزَغَتْ، قَالَ: «ارْتَحِلُوا»، فَسَارَ بِنَا حَتَّى إِذَا ابْيَضَّتِ الشَّمْسُ نَزَلَ فَصَلَّى بِنَا الْغَدَاةَ، فَاعْتَزَلَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ لَمْ يُصَلِّ مَعَنَا، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ، قَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «يَا فُلَانُ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ مَعَنَا؟» قَالَ: يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ أَصَابَتْنِي جَنَابَةٌ، فَأَمَرَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَتَيَمَّمَ بِالصَّعِيدِ، فَصَلَّى، ثُمَّ عَجَّلَنِي فِي رَكْبٍ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ نَطْلُبُ الْمَاءَ، وَقَدْ عَطِشْنَا عَطَشًا شَدِيدًا، فَبَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ نَسِيرُ إِذَا نَحْنُ بِامْرَأَةٍ سَادِلَةٍ رِجْلَيْهَا بَيْنَ مَزَادَتَيْنِ، فَقُلْنَا لَهَا: أَيْنَ الْمَاءُ؟ قَالَتْ: أَيْهَاهْ أَيْهَاهْ، لَا مَاءَ لَكُمْ، قُلْنَا: فَكَمْ بَيْنَ أَهْلِكِ وَبَيْنَ الْمَاءِ؟ قَالَتْ: مَسِيرَةُ يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ، قُلْنَا: انْطَلِقِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَتْ: وَمَا رَسُولُ اللهِ؟ فَلَمْ نُمَلِّكْهَا مِنْ أَمْرِهَا شَيْئًا حَتَّى انْطَلَقْنَا بِهَا، فَاسْتَقْبَلْنَا بِهَا رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَسَأَلَهَا، فَأَخْبَرَتْهُ مِثْلَ الَّذِي أَخْبَرَتْنَا، وَأَخْبَرَتْهُ أَنَّهَا مُوتِمَةٌ لَهَا صِبْيَانٌ أَيْتَامٌ، فَأَمَرَ بِرَاوِيَتِهَا فَأُنِيخَتْ فَمَجَّ فِي الْعَزْلَاوَيْنِ الْعُلْيَاوَيْنِ، ثُمَّ بَعَثَ بِرَاوِيَتِهَا، فَشَرِبْنَا وَنَحْنُ أَرْبَعُونَ رَجُلًا عِطَاشٌ حَتَّى رَوِينَا، وَمَلَأْنَا كُلَّ قِرْبَةٍ مَعَنَا وَإِدَاوَةٍ، وَغَسَّلْنَا صَاحِبَنَا، غَيْرَ أَنَّا لَمْ نَسْقِ بَعِيرًا، وَهِيَ تَكَادُ تَنْضَرِجُ مِنَ الْمَاءِ - يَعْنِي الْمَزَادَتَيْنِ - ثُمَّ قَالَ: «هَاتُوا مَا كَانَ عِنْدَكُمْ»، فَجَمَعْنَا لَهَا مِنْ كِسَرٍ وَتَمْرٍ، وَصَرَّ لَهَا صُرَّةً، فَقَالَ لَهَا: «اذْهَبِي فَأَطْعِمِي هَذَا عِيَالَكِ، وَاعْلَمِي أَنَّا لَمْ نَرْزَأْ مِنْ مَائِكِ»، فَلَمَّا أَتَتْ أَهْلَهَا قَالَتْ: لَقَدْ لَقِيتُ أَسْحَرَ الْبَشَرِ، أَوْ إِنَّهُ لَنَبِيٌّ كَمَا زَعَمَ، كَانَ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ ذَيْتَ وَذَيْتَ، فَهَدَى اللهُ ذَاكَ الصِّرْمَ بِتِلْكَ الْمَرْأَةِ، فَأَسْلَمَتْ وَأَسْلَمُوا
سلم بن زریر عطاری نے کہا : میں نے ابو رجاء عطاری سے سنا ‘ وہ حضرت عمران بن حصین رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت کر رہے تھے ‘ کہا : میں نبی ﷺ کے ایک میں آپﷺ کے ہمراہ تھا ‘ ہم اس رات چلتے رہے حتی کہ جب صبح قریب آئی تو ہم ( تھکاوٹ کے سبب ) اتر پڑے ‘ ہم پر ( نینج میں ڈوبی ) آنکھیں غالب آگئیں یہاں تک کہ سورج چمکنے لگا ۔ ہم میں جو سب سے پہلے بیدار ہوئے وہ حضرت ابو بکر رضی اللہ عنہ تھے ۔ جب نبیﷺ سو جاتے تو ہم آپ ﷺ کو جگایا نہیں کرتے تھے حتی کہ آپ ﷺ خود بیدار ہو جاتے ‘ پھر عمر رضی اللہ عنہ جاگے ‘ وہ اللہ کے نبی ﷺ کے قریب کھڑے ہو گے اور اللہ اکبر پکارنے لگے اور ( اس ) تکبیر میں آواز اونچی کرنے لگے یہاں تک کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ بھی جاگ گئے ‘ جب آپﷺنے سر اٹھایا اور دیکھا کہ سورج چمک رہا ہےتو فرمایا : ’ ( آگے ) چلو ۔ آپ ﷺ ہمیں لے کر چلے یہاں تک کہ سورج ( روشن ) ہو کر سفید ہو گیا ‘ آپ اتر ے ‘ ہمیں صبح کی نماز پڑھائی ۔ لوگوں میں سے ایک آدمی الگ ہو گیا اور اس نے ہمارے ساتھ نماز نہ پڑھی ‘ جب سلام پھیرا تو رسول اللہ ﷺ نے اس سے کہا : ’’فلاں!تم نے ہمارے ساتھ نماز کیوں نہیں پڑھی ؟ ‘ ‘ اس نے کہا : اے اللہ کے نبی !مجھےےجنابت لاحق ہوگی ہے ۔ آپﷺنے اسے حکم دیا ۔ اس نے مٹی سے تیمم کیا اور نماز پڑھی ‘ پھرآپﷺنے مجھےےچند سواروں سمیت پانی کی تلاش میں جلدی اپنے آگے روانہ کیا ‘ ہم سخت پیاسے تھے ‘ جب ہم چل رہے تھے تو ہمیں ایک عورت ملی جس نے اپنے پاؤں دو مشکوں کے درمیان لٹکارکھےے تھے ( بقڑی مشکوں سمیت پاؤں لٹکائے ‘ اونٹ پر سوار تھی ) ‘ ہم نے اس سے پوچھا : پانی کہا ں ہے ؟کہنے لگی : افسوس !تمہارے لیے پانی نہیں ہے ۔ ہم نے پوچھا : تمہارے گھر اور پانی کے دریمان کتنا فاصلہ ہے ؟اس نے کہا : ایک دن اور رات کی مسافت ہے ۔ ہم نے کہا : اللہ کے رسول ﷺ کے پاس چلو ۔ کہنے لگی : اللہ کا رسول کیا ہوتا ہے ؟ہم نے اسے اس کے معاملے میں ( فیصلےکا ) کچھاختیار نہ دیا حتی کہ اسے لے آئےاس کے ساتھ ہم رسول اللہ ﷺکے سامنے حاضر ہوئے ‘ آپنے اس سے پوچھا تو اس نے آپکو اسی طرح بتایا جس طرح ہمیں بتایا تھا ‘ اور آپ کو یہ بھی بتایا کہ وہ یتیم بچوں والی ہے ‘ اس کے ( زیر کفالت ) بہت سے یتیم بچے ہیں ۔ آپ نے اس کی پانی ڈھونے والی اونٹنی کے بارے میں حکم دیا ‘ اسے بھٹا دیا گیا اور آپ نے کلی کر کے مسکوں کے اوپر کے دونوں سوراخوں میں پانی ڈالا ‘ پھر آپ نے اس کی اونٹنی کوکھرا کیا تو ہم سب نے اور ہم چالیس ( شدید ) پیاسے افراد تھے ( ان مشکوں سے ) پانی پیا یہاں تک کہ ہم سیراب ہو گے اور ےہمارے پاس جتنی مشکیں اور پانی کے برتن تھے سب بھر لیے اور اپنے ساتھی کو غسل بھی کرا یا ‘ التبہ ہم نےکسی اونٹ کو پانی نہ پیلایا اور وہ یعنی دونوں مشکیں پانی ( کی مقدار زیادہ ہو جانے کے سبب ) پھٹنے والی ہو گیئں ‘ پھر آپ نے فرمایا : ’’تمہارےپاس جو کچھ ہے ‘ لے آؤ ۔ ‘ ‘ ہم نے ٹکڑے اور کھجوریں اکٹھی کیں ‘ اس کے لیے ایک تھیلی کا منہ بند کر دیا گیا تو آپ نےاس سے کہا : ’’جاؤ اور یہ خوراک اپنے بچوں کو کھلا ؤ اور جان لو !ہم نے تمہارے پانی میں کمی نہیں ۔ ‘ ‘ جب وہ اپنے گھر والوں کے پاس پہنچی تو کہا : میں انسانوں کے سب سے بڑے ساحر سے مل کر آئی ہوں یا پھر جس طرحکہ وہ خود کو سمجھتا ہے ‘ وہ نبی ہے ‘ اور اس کا معملہ اس اس کرح سے ہے ۔ پھر ( آخر کار ) اللہ نے اس عورت کے سبب سے لوگوں سے کٹی ہوئی اس آبادی کو ہدایت عطا کر دی ‘ وہ مسلمان ہوگی اور ( باقی ) لوگ بھی مسلمان ہو گے ۔ ( یہ پچھلے واقعے سے ملتا جلتا ایک اور واقعہ ہے ۔ )

Imran b. Husain reported: We were with the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) in a journey and we travelled throughout the night till at the end, just before dawn, we lay down (for rest), and nothing is sweeter for a traveller than this and none awakened us but the heat of the sun, and the rest of the hadith is the same (as mentioned above) except this additien: When 'Umar b. Khattab woke up, he saw what had happened to the people. And he was a man having a big belly and strongly built; he recited takbir in a loud voice till the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) woke up by the loudness of his voice in takbir. When the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) got up, the people told him what had happened. Upon this the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) said: There is no harm; you better proceed further, and (the rest of the hadith) was narrated.

Abu Qatada reported that when the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) was in a journey he got down for rest at night, and he used to lie down on his right side, and when he lay down for rest before the dawn, he used to stretch his forearm and place his head over his palm.
