Translation

Al-Hasan narrated that : Samurah said: there are two pauses that I preserved from Allah's Messenger. But Imran bin Husain rejected that and said: We preserved one pause. So we wrote to Ubayy bin Ka'b in Al-Madinah. Ubayy wrote that Samurah was correct. Sa'eed said: We said to Qatadah: 'What are those two pauses?' He said: 'When he entered into his Salat, and when he finished his recitation.' Then he (Qatadah) said after that: 'And when he recited (Nor those who went astray.)' And he said: 'He liked to pause when he finished the recitation until he caught his breath.'

حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُوسَى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ سَمُرَةَ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَكْتَتَانِ حَفِظْتُهُمَا عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَنْكَرَ ذَلِكَ عِمْرَانُ بْنُ حُصَيْنٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَفِظْنَا سَكْتَةً، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَكَتَبْنَا إِلَى أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ بِالْمَدِينَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَكَتَبَ أُبَيٌّ أَنْ حَفِظَ سَمُرَةُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ سَعِيدٌ:‏‏‏‏ فَقُلْنَا لِقَتَادَةَ:‏‏‏‏ مَا هَاتَانِ السَّكْتَتَانِ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا دَخَلَ فِي صَلَاتِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا فَرَغَ مِنَ الْقِرَاءَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ قَالَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ:‏‏‏‏ وَإِذَا قَرَأَ وَلا الضَّالِّينَ سورة الفاتحة آية 7 قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَكَانَ يُعْجِبُهُ إِذَا فَرَغَ مِنَ الْقِرَاءَةِ أَنْ يَسْكُتَ حَتَّى يَتَرَادَّ إِلَيْهِ نَفَسُهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ حَدِيثُ سَمُرَةَ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُوَ قَوْلُ غَيْرِ وَاحِدٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَسْتَحِبُّونَ لِلْإِمَامِ أَنْ يَسْكُتَ بَعْدَمَا يَفْتَتِحُ الصَّلَاةَ وَبَعْدَ الْفَرَاغِ مِنَ الْقِرَاءَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَبِهِ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ أَحْمَدُ وَإِسْحَاق وَأَصْحَابُنَا.

سمرہ رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ ( نماز میں ) دو سکتے ہیں جنہیں میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے یاد کیا ہے، اس پر عمران بن حصین رضی الله عنہ نے اس کا انکار کیا اور کہا: ہمیں تو ایک ہی سکتہ یاد ہے۔ چنانچہ ( سمرہ بن جندب رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں ) ہم نے مدینے میں ابی بن کعب رضی الله عنہ کو لکھا، تو انہوں نے لکھا کہ سمرہ نے ( ٹھیک ) یاد رکھا ہے۔ سعید بن ابی عروبہ کہتے ہیں: تو ہم نے قتادہ سے پوچھا: یہ دو سکتے کون کون سے ہیں؟ انہوں نے کہا: جب نماز میں داخل ہوتے ( پہلا اس وقت ) اور جب آپ قرأت سے فارغ ہوتے، پھر اس کے بعد کہا اور جب «ولا الضالين» کہتے ۱؎ اور آپ کو یہ بات اچھی لگتی تھی کہ جب آپ قرأت سے فارغ ہوں تو تھوڑی دیر چپ رہیں یہاں تک کہ سانس ٹھہر جائے۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- سمرہ رضی الله عنہ کی حدیث حسن ہے، ۲- اس باب میں ابوہریرہ رضی الله عنہ سے بھی حدیث آئی ہے، ۳- اہل علم میں سے بہت سے لوگوں کا یہی قول ہے کہ وہ امام کے لیے نماز شروع کرنے کے بعد اور قرأت سے فارغ ہونے کے بعد ( تھوڑی دیر ) چپ رہنے کو مستحب جانتے ہیں۔ اور یہی احمد، اسحاق بن راہویہ اور ہمارے اصحاب بھی کہتے ہیں۔

Qabisah bin Hulb narrated from : his father who said: Allah's Messenger lead us in prayer and hold his left hand with his right.

Abdullah bin Mas'ud narrated: Allah's Messenger would say the Takbir for every lowering and raising, standing and sitting, and (so did) Abu Bakr and Umar.

Salim narrated from : his father (Ibn Umar) who said: I saw Allah's Messenger when he opened the Salat, raising his hands to the level of his shoulders, and (again) when he bowed, and when he raised his head from bowing. In his narration, Ibn Abi Umar added: And he wuld not raise them between the two prostrations.

Alqamah narrated that : Abdullah bin Mas'ud said: Shall I not demonstrate the Salat of Allah's Messenger to you? Then he offered Salat and he did not raise his hands except while saying the first Takbir.
