Salmah bin AI-Akwa narrated: Allah's Messenger prayed Maghrib when the sun had set and it (the sun) had hidden in the veil (of darkness).

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا حَاتِمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيل، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْأَكْوَعِ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي الْمَغْرِبَ إِذَا غَرَبَتِ الشَّمْسُ وَتَوَارَتْ بِالْحِجَابِ . قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ جَابِرٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَالصُّنَابِحِيِّ،‏‏‏‏ وَزَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَأَنَسٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَرَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَأَبِي أَيُّوبَ،‏‏‏‏ وَأُمِّ حَبِيبَةَ،‏‏‏‏ وَعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ،‏‏‏‏ وَابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَحَدِيثُ الْعَبَّاسِ قَدْ رُوِيَ مَوْقُوفًا عَنْهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُوَ أَصَحُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالصُّنَابِحِيُّ لَمْ يَسْمَعْ مِنَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُوَ صَاحِبُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ حَدِيثُ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْأَكْوَعِ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُوَ قَوْلُ أَكْثَرِ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمَنْ بَعْدَهُمْ مِنَ التَّابِعِينَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏اخْتَارُوا تَعْجِيلَ صَلَاةِ الْمَغْرِبِ وَكَرِهُوا تَأْخِيرَهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَتَّى قَالَ بَعْضُ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ:‏‏‏‏ لَيْسَ لِصَلَاةِ الْمَغْرِبِ إِلَّا وَقْتٌ وَاحِدٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَذَهَبُوا إِلَى حَدِيثِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَيْثُ صَلَّى بِهِ جِبْرِيلُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُوَ قَوْلُ ابْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ،‏‏‏‏ وَالشَّافِعِيِّ.

سلمہ بن الاکوع رضی الله عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی الله علیہ وسلم مغرب اس وقت پڑھتے جب سورج ڈوب جاتا اور پردے میں چھپ جاتا ۱؎۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- سلمہ بن الاکوع والی حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- اس باب میں جابر، صنابحی، زید بن خالد، انس، رافع بن خدیج، ابوایوب، ام حبیبہ، عباس بن عبدالمطلب اور ابن عباس رضی الله عنہم سے بھی احادیث آئی ہیں، ۳- عباس رضی الله عنہ کی حدیث ان سے موقوفاً روایت کی گئی ہے اور یہی زیادہ صحیح ہے، ۴- اور صنابحی نے نبی اکرم صلی الله علیہ وسلم سے نہیں سنا ہے، وہ تو ابوبکر رضی الله عنہ کے دور کے ہیں، ۵- اور یہی قول صحابہ کرام اور ان کے بعد تابعین میں سے اکثر اہل علم کا ہے، ان لوگوں نے نماز مغرب جلدی پڑھنے کو پسند کیا ہے اور اسے مؤخر کرنے کو مکروہ سمجھا ہے، یہاں تک کہ بعض لوگوں کا کہنا ہے کہ مغرب کا ایک ہی وقت ہے ۲؎، یہ تمام حضرات نبی اکرم صلی الله علیہ وسلم کی اس حدیث کی طرف گئے ہیں جس میں ہے کہ جبرائیل نے آپ کو نماز پڑھائی اور یہی ابن مبارک اور شافعی کا قول ہے۔
