Umar bin Al-Khattab narrated: Allah's Messenger would talk during the night with Abu Bakr about matters concerning the Muslims while I was with them.

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسْمُرُ مَعَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ فِي الْأَمْرِ مِنْ أَمْرِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَأَنَا مَعَهُمَا . وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو،‏‏‏‏ وَأَوْسِ بْنِ حُذَيْفَةَ،‏‏‏‏ وَعِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ حَدِيثُ عُمَرَ حَسَنٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ رَوَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنْ جُعْفِيٍّ يُقَالُ لَهُ:‏‏‏‏ قَيْسٌ أَوْ ابْنُ قَيْسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عُمَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ فِي قِصَّةٍ طَوِيلَةٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدِ اخْتَلَفَ أَهْلُ الْعِلْمِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالتَّابِعِينَ وَمَنْ بَعْدَهُمْ فِي السَّمَرِ بَعْدَ صَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ الْآخِرَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَكَرِهَ قَوْمٌ مِنْهُمُ السَّمَرَ بَعْدَ صَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَرَخَّصَ بَعْضُهُمْ إِذَا كَانَ فِي مَعْنَى الْعِلْمِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمَا لَا بُدَّ مِنْهُ مِنَ الْحَوَائِجِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَكْثَرُ الْحَدِيثِ عَلَى الرُّخْصَةِ قَدْ رُوِيَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا سَمَرَ إِلَّا لِمُصَلٍّ أَوْ مُسَافِرٍ .

عمر بن خطاب رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی الله علیہ وسلم مسلمانوں کے بعض معاملات میں سے ابوبکر رضی الله عنہ کے ساتھ رات میں گفتگو کرتے اور میں ان دونوں کے ساتھ ہوتا تھا۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- عمر رضی الله عنہ کی حدیث حسن ہے، ۲- اس باب میں عبداللہ بن عمرو، اوس بن حذیفہ اور عمران بن حصین رضی الله عنہم سے بھی احادیث آئی ہیں، ۳- صحابہ کرام اور تابعین اور ان کے بعد کے لوگوں میں سے اہل علم نے عشاء کے بعد بات کرنے کے سلسلہ میں اختلاف کیا ہے۔ کچھ لوگوں نے عشاء کے بعد بات کرنے کو مکروہ جانا ہے اور کچھ لوگوں نے اس کی رخصت دی ہے، بشرطیکہ یہ کوئی علمی گفتگو ہو یا کوئی ایسی ضرورت ہو جس کے بغیر چارہ نہ ہو ۱؎ اور اکثر احادیث رخصت کے بیان میں ہیں، نیز نبی اکرم صلی الله علیہ وسلم سے مروی ہے کہ آپ نے فرمایا: ”بات صرف وہ کر سکتا ہے جو نماز عشاء کا منتظر ہو یا مسافر ہو“۔

Umm Farwah - and she was one of those who gave pledge of allegiance to the Prophet - narrated: The Prophet was asked: 'Which deed is the best?' So he said: 'Salat in the beginning of its time.'

Ali bin AbI Talib narrated that : the Prophet said to him: 'Ali! Three are not to be delayed: Salat when its time comes, a funeral whet it (a prepared body) is present, and the (marriage of a) single woman when there is an equal for her.

Ibn Umar narrated that : Allah's Messenger said: The beginning of the time for Salat is pleasing to Allah, and the end of its time is pardoned by Allah.

Abu Amr Ash-Shaibani narrated: A man said to Ibn Mas'ud: 'Which deed is most virtuous?' He said: 'I asked Allah's Messenger (that). He said: Salat at the beginning of its time. I asked him: What is after that O Messenger of Allah? He said: Being dutiful to one's parents. I said: What is after that [O Messenger of Allah]? He said: Jihad in the Way of Allah.
