Abdur-Rahman bin Yazld said, : They said to Salman, 'Your Prophet taught you about everything, even defecating?' So Salman said, 'Yes. He prohibited us from facing the Qiblah when defecating and urinating, performing Istinja with the right hand, using less than three stones for Istinja, and using dung or bones for Istinja

حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادٌ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قِيلَ لِسَلْمَانَ:‏‏‏‏ قَدْ عَلَّمَكُمْ نَبِيُّكُمْ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ حَتَّى الْخِرَاءَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ سَلْمَانُ:‏‏‏‏ أَجَلْ،‏‏‏‏ نَهَانَا أَنْ نَسْتَقْبِلَ الْقِبْلَةَ بِغَائِطٍ أَوْ بَوْلٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَنْ نَسْتَنْجِيَ بِالْيَمِينِ أَوْ أَنْ يَسْتَنْجِيَ أَحَدُنَا بِأَقَلَّ مِنْ ثَلَاثَةِ أَحْجَارٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَوْ أَنْ نَسْتَنْجِيَ بِرَجِيعٍ أَوْ بِعَظْمٍ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ عَائِشَةَ،‏‏‏‏ وَخُزَيْمَةَ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَجَابِرٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَخَلَّادِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ وَحَدِيثُ سَلْمَانَ فِي هَذَا الْبَابِ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُوَ قَوْلُ أَكْثَرِ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمَنْ بَعْدَهُمْ:‏‏‏‏ رَأَوْا أَنَّ الِاسْتِنْجَاءَ بِالْحِجَارَةِ يُجْزِئُ وَإِنْ لَمْ يَسْتَنْجِ بِالْمَاءِ إِذَا أَنْقَى أَثَرَ الْغَائِطِ وَالْبَوْلِ،‏‏‏‏ وَبِهِ يَقُولُ الثَّوْرِيُّ،‏‏‏‏ وَابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ،‏‏‏‏ وَالشَّافِعِيُّ،‏‏‏‏ وَأَحْمَدُ،‏‏‏‏ وَإِسْحَاقُ

عبدالرحمٰن بن یزید کہتے ہیں کہ سلمان فارسی رضی الله عنہ سے بطور طنز یہ بات کہی گئی کہ تمہارے نبی نے تمہیں ساری چیزیں سکھائی ہیں حتیٰ کہ پیشاب پاخانہ کرنا بھی، تو سلمان فارسی رضی الله عنہ نے بطور فخر کہا: ہاں، ایسا ہی ہے ہمارے نبی نے ہمیں پیشاب پاخانہ کے وقت قبلہ کی طرف منہ کرنے، داہنے ہاتھ سے استنجاء کرنے، اور تین پتھر سے کم سے استنجاء کرنے، اور گوبر اور ہڈی سے استنجاء کرنے سے ہمیں منع فرمایا ہے۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- اس باب میں عائشہ، خزیمہ بن ثابت جابر اور خلاد بن السائب رضی الله عنہم سے بھی احادیث آئی ہیں، ۲- سلمان رضی الله عنہ کی حدیث اس باب میں حسن صحیح ہے، ۳- صحابہ و تابعین میں سے اکثر اہل علم کا یہی قول ہے کہ پتھر سے استنجاء کر لینا کافی ہے جب وہ پاخانہ اور پیشاب کے اثر کو زائل و پاک کر دے اگرچہ پانی سے استنجاء نہ کیا گیا ہو، یہی قول ثوری، ابن مبارک، شافعی، احمد اور اسحاق بن راہویہ کا بھی ہے۔

Abdullah said: Allah's Messenger went out to relieve himself. So he said: 'Bring me tree stones.' He said, So I came with two stones and a piece of dung. So he took the two stones, and left the dung. He said: 'It is Riks (a degenerative or filthy thing).

Abdullah bin Mas'ud narrated that : Allah's Messenger said: Do not perform Istinja, with dung, nor with bones. For indeed it is provisions for your brothers among the Jinn.
