It was narrated that Anas said: The Messenger of Allah passed by an old man who was being supported between two men and said: 'What is the matter with him?' They said: 'He vowed to walk.' He said: 'Allah has no need for him to torture himself. Tell him to ride.' So he was told to ride.
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَنَسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِشَيْخٍ يُهَادَى بَيْنَ اثْنَيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَا بَالُ هَذَا ؟ . قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ نَذَرَ أَنْ يَمْشِيَ. قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ اللَّهَ غَنِيٌّ عَنْ تَعْذِيبِ هَذَا نَفْسَهُ،‏‏‏‏ مُرْهُ فَلْيَرْكَبْ . فَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَرْكَبَ.
انس رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کا گزر ایک ایسے بوڑھے شخص کے پاس سے ہوا جو دو آدمیوں کے درمیان ان کے کندھے پر ہاتھ رکھ کر چل رہا تھا۔ آپ نے فرمایا:  اس کا کیا حال ہے؟  ان لوگوں نے عرض کیا: اس نے  ( کعبہ )  پیدل جانے کی نذر مانی ہے، آپ نے فرمایا:  اس کے اس طرح اپنی جان کو تکلیف پہنچانے کی اللہ کو ضرورت نہیں، اسے حکم دو کہ سوار ہو کر چلے، چنانچہ انہوں نے اسے سوار ہونے کا حکم دیا ۔

The Messenger of Allah said: If he had said: 'If Allah wills,' he would not have broken his vow, and this would have been a means to help him to get what he wanted.
