It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah forbade vows and said: They do not bring any good; they are just a means of taking wealth from the miserly.

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَخْبَرَنِي مَنْصُورٌ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ،‏‏‏‏ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنِ النَّذْرِ،‏‏‏‏ وَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّهُ لَا يَأْتِي بِخَيْرٍ،‏‏‏‏ إِنَّمَا يُسْتَخْرَجُ بِهِ مِنَ الْبَخِيلِ .

عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے نذر ( ماننے ) سے منع کیا اور فرمایا: اس سے کوئی بھلائی حاصل نہیں ہوتی، البتہ اس سے بخیل سے ( کچھ مال ) نکال لیا جاتا ہے ۱؎۔
