It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin 'Umar said: The Messenger of Allah forbade vows and said: 'They do not change anything; they are just a means of taking wealth from the miserly.'

أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ النَّذْرِ،‏‏‏‏ وَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّهُ لَا يَرُدُّ شَيْئًا،‏‏‏‏ إِنَّمَا يُسْتَخْرَجُ بِهِ مِنَ الشَّحِيحِ .

عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے نذر ماننے سے منع کیا اور فرمایا: اس سے کوئی چیز رد نہیں ہوتی، البتہ اس سے بخیل سے ( کچھ مال ) نکال لیا جاتا ہے ۔
