It was narrated that Abdur-Rahman - meaning bin Yazid - said: It was said to Abdullah bin Masud that some people were stoning the Jamart from above al-Aqabah. He said: So Abdullah stoned it from the bottom of the valley, then he said: 'From here - by the One beside Whom there is no other God - did the one to whom surat Al-Baqarah was revealed, stone it.
أَخْبَرَنَا هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي مُحَيَّاةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ يَزِيدَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قِيلَ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ إِنَّ نَاسًا يَرْمُونَ الْجَمْرَةَ مِنْ فَوْقِ الْعَقَبَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَرَمَى عَبْدُ اللَّهِ مِنْ بَطْنِ الْوَادِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مِنْ هَا هُنَا وَالَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ رَمَى الَّذِي أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ سُورَةُ الْبَقَرَةِ .
عبدالرحمٰن بن یزید کہتے ہیں کہ عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی الله عنہ سے کہا گیا کہ   کچھ لوگ جمرہ کو گھاٹی کے اوپر سے کنکریاں مارتے ہیں، تو عبداللہ بن مسعود نے وادی کے نیچے سے کنکریاں ماریں، پھر کہا: قسم ہے اس ذات کی جس کے سوا کوئی حقیقی معبود نہیں، اسی جگہ سے اس شخص نے کنکریاں ماریں جس پر سورۃ البقرہ نازل ہوئی ( یعنی محمد صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ) ۔
