It was narrated that Abu Aswad Ad-Dili said: I came to Al-Madinah and sat with 'Umar bin Al-Khattab. A funeral passed by and the deceased was praised, and 'Umar said: 'It is granted.' Then another passed by and the deceased was praised, and 'Umar Said: 'It is granted.' Then a third passed by, and the deceased was criticized, and 'Umar said: 'It is granted.' I said: What is granted, O commander of the believers?' He said: 'I said what the Messenger of Allah said: Any Muslim for whom four people bear witness and say good things, Allah will admit him to Paradise.' We said: 'Or three?' He said: 'Or three.' We said: 'Or two?' He said: 'Or two. '

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قال:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَا:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ أَبِي الْفُرَاتِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قال:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بُرَيْدَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي الْأَسْوَدِ الدِّيلِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قال:‏‏‏‏ أَتَيْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ فَجَلَسْتُ إِلَى عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ فَمُرَّ بِجَنَازَةٍ فَأُثْنِيَ عَلَى صَاحِبِهَا خَيْرًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ عُمَرُ:‏‏‏‏ وَجَبَتْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ مُرَّ بِأُخْرَى فَأُثْنِيَ عَلَى صَاحِبِهَا خَيْرًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ عُمَرُ:‏‏‏‏ وَجَبَتْ،‏‏‏‏ ثُمَّ مُرَّ بِالثَّالِثِ فَأُثْنِيَ عَلَى صَاحِبِهَا شَرًّا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ عُمَرُ:‏‏‏‏ وَجَبَتْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ وَمَا وَجَبَتْ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ؟ قال:‏‏‏‏ قُلْتُ كَمَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ أَيُّمَا مُسْلِمٍ شَهِدَ لَهُ أَرْبَعَةٌ قَالُوا خَيْرًا أَدْخَلَهُ اللَّهُ الْجَنَّةَ ،‏‏‏‏ قُلْنَا:‏‏‏‏ أَوْ ثَلَاثَةٌ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَوْ ثَلَاثَةٌ،‏‏‏‏ قُلْنَا:‏‏‏‏ أَوِ اثْنَانِ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَوِ اثْنَانِ.

ابو اسود دیلی کہتے ہیں کہ میں مدینہ آیا تو عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس بیٹھا اتنے میں ایک جنازہ لے جایا گیا، تو اس کی تعریف کی گئی تو عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: واجب ہو گئی، پھر ایک دوسرا جنازہ لے جایا گیا، تو اس کی ( بھی ) تعریف کی گئی، تو عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: واجب ہو گئی، پھر ایک تیسرا جنازہ لے جایا گیا، تو اس کی مذمت کی گئی، تو عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: واجب ہو گئی، تو میں نے پوچھا: امیر المؤمنین! کیا واجب ہو گئی؟ انہوں نے کہا: میں نے وہی بات کہی جو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمائی: ”جس مسلمان کے لیے بھی چار لوگوں نے خیر کی گواہی دی تو اللہ اسے جنت میں داخل کرے گا“، ہم نے پوچھا: ( اگر ) تین گواہی دیں؟ تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”تین ہی سہی“، ( پھر ) ہم نے پوچھا: ( اگر ) دو گواہی دیں؟ تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”دو ہی سہی“۔

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah said: The believer owes six duties toward his fellow believer: To visit him when he is sick, to attend his funeral when he dies, to accept his invitation, to greet him with Salam when he meets him, to reply to him (say: Yarhamuk Allah, may Allah have mercy on you) when he sneezes and to be sincere to him, whether he is absent or present. (Hasan).

It was narrated that Al-Bara bin 'Azib said: The Messenger of Allah commanded us to do seven things, and forbade us form seven things. He commanded us to visit the risk, to reply (say: Yarhamuk Allah, may Allah have mercy on you) to one who sneezes, to fulfill our oaths, to support the oppressed, to spread the greeting of Salam, to accept invitation, and to attend funerals. And he forbade us from using gold rings, silver vessels, Mayathir, the Qasiyyah, Al-Istabraq, silk and Ad-Dibaj.

It was narrated that Al-Musayyab bin Rafi' said: I heard Al-Bara' bin 'Azib say: The Messenger of Allah said: 'whoever follows a Janazah until the prayer is offered, he will haveone Qirat of reward and whoever walks with the funeral until (the body) is buried will have two Qirats of reward, and a Qirat is like Uhud. '
