It was narrated that Abu Hurairah and Abu Sa'eed said: We never saw the Messenger of Allah attend any funeral where he sat down until (the body) was placed (in the grave).

أَخْبَرَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قال:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ عَجْلَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سَعِيدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَا:‏‏‏‏ مَا رَأَيْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَهِدَ جَنَازَةً قَطُّ فَجَلَسَ حَتَّى تُوضَعَ .

ابوہریرہ اور ابو سعید خدری رضی الله عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ ہم نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو کبھی نہیں دیکھا کہ آپ جنازے کے ساتھ ہوں، ( اور ) بیٹھ گئے ہوں یہاں تک کہ وہ رکھ دیا جائے۔

It was narrated from Abu Sa'eed that a funeral passed by the Messenger of Allah and he stood up. (One of the narrators) 'Amr said: If a funeral passed by the Messenger of Allah he would stand up.
