It was narrated that 'Abdur-Rahman bin Abi Laila said: Sahl bin Hunaif and Qais bin Sa'd bin 'Ubadah were in Al-Qadisiyyah when a funeral passed by them, so they stood up and it was said to them: 'It is one of the local people.' They said: 'A funeral passed the Messenger of Allah and he stood up, and it was said to him: It Is a Jew. He said: 'Is it not a soul? '

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قال:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قال:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قال:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ سَهْلُ ابْنُ حُنَيْفٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَيْسُ بْنُ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ بِالْقَادِسِيَّةِ فَمُرَّ عَلَيْهِمَا بِجَنَازَةٍ فَقَامَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقِيلَ لَهُمَا:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّهَا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَا:‏‏‏‏ مُرَّ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِجَنَازَةٍ فَقَامَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقِيلَ لَهُ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّهُ يَهُودِيٌّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَلَيْسَتْ نَفْسًا .

عبدالرحمٰن بن ابی لیلیٰ کہتے ہیں کہ سہل بن حنیف اور قیس بن سعد بن عبادہ رضی اللہ عنہ قادسیہ میں تھے۔ ان دونوں کے قریب سے ایک جنازہ لے جایا گیا، تو دونوں کھڑے ہو گئے تو ان سے کہا گیا: یہ تو ذمی ہے؟ تو انہوں نے کہا: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس سے ایک جنازہ لے جایا گیا تو آپ کھڑے ہو گئے، تو آپ سے عرض کیا گیا یہ تو یہودی ہے؟ تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے کہا: ”کیا یہ روح نہیں ہے؟“۔

The People stood until the funeral had passed, and Al-Hasan said: The funeral of Jew passed by when the Messenger of Allah was sitting in its path, and he did not want the funeral of a Jew to pass over his head, so he stood up.
