Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: When you hear. . . . (Musa's version has): When a man says people have perished, he is the one who has suffered that fate most. Abu Dawud said: Malik said: If he says that out of sadness for the decadence of religion which he sees among the people, I do not think there is any harm in that. If he says that out of self-conceit and servility of the people, it is an abominable act which has been prohibited.

حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مَالِكٍ. ح، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وحَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيل، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْأَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا سَمِعْتَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَ مُوسَى:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا قَالَ الرَّجُلُ هَلَكَ النَّاسُ فَهُوَ أَهْلَكُهُمْ ،‏‏‏‏ قال أبو داود:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ مَالِكٌ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا قَالَ ذَلِكَ تَحَزُّنًا لِمَا يَرَى فِي النَّاسِ:‏‏‏‏ يَعْنِي فِي أَمْرِ دِينِهِمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَا أَرَى بِهِ بَأْسًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا قَالَ ذَلِكَ عُجْبًا بِنَفْسِهِ وَتَصَاغُرًا لِلنَّاسِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَهُوَ الْمَكْرُوهُ الَّذِي نُهِيَ عَنْهُ.

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: جب تم سنو! ( اور موسیٰ کی روایت میں یوں ہے، کہ جب آدمی کہے ) کہ لوگ ہلاک ہو گئے تو وہی ان میں سب سے زیادہ ہلاک ہونے والا ہے ۱؎ ۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: مالک نے کہا: جب وہ یہ بات دینی معاملات میں لوگوں کی روش دیکھ کر رنج سے کہے تو میں اس میں کوئی مضائقہ نہیں سمجھتا، اور جب یہ بات وہ خود پر ناز کر کے اور لوگوں کو حقیر سمجھ کر کہے تو یہی وہ مکروہ و ناپسندیدہ چیز ہے، جس سے روکا گیا ہے۔

Ibn Umar reported the prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: The desert Arabs may not dominate you in respect of the name of your prayer. Beware! It is al-`Isha, but they milk their camels when it is fairly dark.

Narrated A man: Salim ibn Abul Jadah said: A man said: (Misar said: I think he was from the tribe of Khuzaah): would that I had prayed, and got comfort. The people objected to him for it. Thereupon he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: O Bilal, call iqamah for prayer: give us comfort by it.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyyah: I and my father went to the house of my father-in-law from the Ansar to pay a sick visit to him. The time of prayer came. He said to someone of his relatives: O girl! bring me water for ablution so that I pray and get comfort. We objected to him for it. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم say: Get up, Bilal, and give us comfort by the prayer.

Narrated Aishah, Ummul Muminin: I never heard the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم attributing anyone to anything except to religion.

Anas said: The people of Madina were started. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم rode on the horse belonging to Abu Talhah. He said: We did not see anything, or he said: we did not see (find) any fear. I found it (could run) like a river.

Abdullah (bin Masud) reported the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: Avoid falsehood, for falsehood leads to wickedness, and wickedness to hell; and if a man continues to speak falsehood and makes falsehood his object, he will be recorded in Allah’s presence as a great liar. And adhere to truth, for truth leads to good deeds, and good deeds lead to paradise. If a man continues to speak the truth and makes truth his object, he will be recorded in Allah’s presence as eminently truthful.
