Translation

Abdullah (bin Masud) reported the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: Avoid falsehood, for falsehood leads to wickedness, and wickedness to hell; and if a man continues to speak falsehood and makes falsehood his object, he will be recorded in Allah’s presence as a great liar. And adhere to truth, for truth leads to good deeds, and good deeds lead to paradise. If a man continues to speak the truth and makes truth his object, he will be recorded in Allah’s presence as eminently truthful.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ،‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخْبَرَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ. ح وحَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دَاوُدَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَاالْأَعْمَشُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ،‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْكَذِبَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنَّ الْكَذِبَ يَهْدِي إِلَى الْفُجُورِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِنَّ الْفُجُورَ يَهْدِي إِلَى النَّارِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَكْذِبُ وَيَتَحَرَّى الْكَذِبَ حَتَّى يُكْتَبَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ كَذَّابًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَعَلَيْكُمْ بِالصِّدْقِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنَّ الصِّدْقَ يَهْدِي إِلَى الْبِرِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِنَّ الْبِرَّ يَهْدِي إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَيَصْدُقُ وَيَتَحَرَّى الصِّدْقَ حَتَّى يُكْتَبَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ صِدِّيقًا .

عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: تم جھوٹ سے بچو، اس لیے کہ جھوٹ برائی کی طرف لے جاتا ہے، اور برائی جہنم میں لے جاتی ہے، آدمی جھوٹ بولتا ہے اور جھوٹ میں لگا رہتا ہے، یہاں تک کہ وہ اللہ کے نزدیک جھوٹا لکھ دیا جاتا ہے اور سچ بولنے کو لازم کر لو اس لیے کہ سچ بھلائی اور نیکی کی طرف لے جاتا ہے اور نیکی جنت میں لے جاتی ہے، آدمی سچ بولتا ہے اور سچ بولنے ہی میں لگا رہتا ہے یہاں تک کہ وہ اللہ کے نزدیک سچا لکھ دیا جاتا ہے ۔

Narrated Muawiyah ibn Jaydah al-Qushayri: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Woe to him who tells things, speaking falsely, to make people laugh thereby. Woe to him! Woe to him!.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Amir: My mother called me one day when the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم was sitting in our house. She said: Come here and I shall give you something. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم asked her: What did you intend to give him? She replied: I intended to give him some dates. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: If you were not to give him anything, a lie would be recorded against you.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: It is enough falsehood for a man to relate everything he hears. Abu Dawud said: Hafs did not mention Abu Hurairah (in his version). Abu Dawud said: No other transmitter except this old man, that is, Ali bin Hafs al-Mada'ini related the perfect chain of this tradition.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: To harbour good thoughts is a part of well-conducted worship. (This is according to Nasr's version). Abu Dawud said: Mahna' is reliable and he is from Basrah.

Safiyyah said: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم was in the I’TIKAF (seclusion in the mosque). I came to visit him at night. I talked to him, got up and turned my back. He got up with me to accompany me. He was living in the house of Usamah bin Zaid. Two men of the Ansar passed by him. When they saw the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم, they walked quickly. The prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Be at ease; she is Safiyyah daughter of Huyayy. They said: Glory be to Allah, Messenger of Allah! He said: The devil flows in man as the blood flows in him. I feared that he might inject something in your hearts, or he said “evil” (instead of something).

Narrated Zayd ibn Arqam: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: When a man makes a promise to his brother with the intention of fulfilling it and does not do so, and does not come at the appointed time, he is guilty of no sin.
