The tradition mentioned above has also been transmitted by Saeed bin Jubair from Ibn Abbas through a different chain of narrators. Ibn Abbas said: The verse: Those who invoke not with Allah applied to polytheists. He said: About them another verse, Say: O my servants who have transgressed against their souls was also revealed.

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ،‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنِي يَعْلَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي هَذِهِ الْقِصَّةِ فِي وَالَّذِينَ لا يَدْعُونَ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَهًا آخَرَ سورة الفرقان آية 68 أَهْلِ الشِّرْكِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَنَزَلَ يَا عِبَادِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسْرَفُوا عَلَى أَنْفُسِهِمْ سورة الزمر آية 53.

عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے اسی قصہ میں مروی ہے کہ «والذين لا يدعون مع الله إلها آخر» سے مراد اہل شرک ہیں اور آیت کریمہ «يا عبادي الذين أسرفوا على أنفسهم لا تقنطوا من رحمة الله» اے میرے بندو! جنہوں نے اپنی جانوں پر زیادتی کی ہے تم اللہ کی رحمت سے ناامید مت ہو جاؤ ( الزمر: ۵۳ ) نازل ہوئی۔

Narrated Saeed ibn Zayd: We were with the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. He mentioned civil strife (fitnah) and expressed its gravity. We or the people said: Messenger of Allah, if this happens to us it will destroy us. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said; No. It is enough for you that you would be killed. Saeed said: I saw that my brethren were killed.

Narrated Abu Musa: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: This people of mine is one to which mercy is shown. It will have no punishment in the next world, but its punishment in this world will be trials, earthquakes and being killed.

Narrated Jabir ibn Samurah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: The religion will continue to be established till there are twelve caliphs over you, and the whole community will agree on each of them. I then heard from the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم some remarks which I could not understand. I asked my father: What is he saying: He said: all of them will belong to Quraysh.

Narrated Jabir bin Samurah: I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم say: This religion will continue to be strong till the time of twelve caliphs. The people then uttered: Allah is more great and uproared. He then silently a word which I could not understand. So I said to my father: What did he say, father ? He said: All of them will belong to Quraish.
