The tradition mentioned above has also been transmitted by al-Auzai through a different chain of narrators. This version adds: He was told: Messenger of Allah, in that case he will of starvation. So he allowed him to visit (the cit) twice a week so that he might ask for food and go back.
حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ فِي هَذِهِ الْقِصَّةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقِيلَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِنَّهُ إِذَنْ يَمُوتُ مِنَ الْجُوعِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَذِنَ لَهُ أَنْ يَدْخُلَ فِي كُلِّ جُمْعَةٍ مَرَّتَيْنِ فَيَسْأَلُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ يَرْجِعُ.
اوزاعی سے اس واقعہ کے سلسلہ میں مروی ہے کہ   نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے عرض کیا گیا: اللہ کے رسول! تب تو وہ بھوک سے مر جائے گا تو آپ نے اسے ہفتہ میں دو بار آنے کی اجازت دے دی، وہ آتا اور کھانا مانگ کر لے جاتا۔

Narrated Umm Salamah, Ummul Muminin: I was with the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم while Maymunah was with him. Then Ibn Umm Maktum came. This happened when we were ordered to observe veil (purdah). The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Observe veil from him. We asked: Messenger of Allah! is he not blind? He can neither see us nor recognise us. The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Are both of you blind? Do you not see him? Abu Dawud said: This was peculiar to the wives of the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. Do you not see that Fatimah daughter of Qays passed her waiting period with Ibn Umm Maktum. The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said to Fatimah daughter of Qays: Pass your waiting period with Ibn Umm Maktum, for he is a blind man. You can put off your clothes with him.

Narrated Amr bin Suhaib: On his father's authority, said that his grandfather reported the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: When one of you marries his female servant to his slave or to his employee, he should not look at her private part below the navel and above the knees. Abu Dawud said: The correct name is Sawwad bin Dawud al-Muzani al-Sairafi (and not Dawud bin Sawwad as mentioned in the chain). The narrator Waki misunderstood it.
