Narrated Dihyah ibn Khalifah al-Kalbi: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم was brought some pieces of fine Egyptian linen and he gave me one and said: Divide it into two; cut one of the pieces into a shirt and give the other to your wife for veil. Then when he turned away, he said: And order your wife to wear a garment below it and not show her figure. Abu Dawud said: Yahya bin Ayyub transmitted it and said: Abbas bin Ubaid Allah bin Abbas
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ السَّرْحِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَا:‏‏‏‏ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ:‏‏‏‏ أَنَّ عُبَيْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَبَّاسٍ حَدَّثَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ دِحْيَةَ بْنِ خَلِيفَةَ الْكَلْبِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهُ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِقَبَاطِيَّ فَأَعْطَانِي مِنْهَا قُبْطِيَّةً، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ اصْدَعْهَا صَدْعَيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَاقْطَعْ أَحَدَهُمَا قَمِيصًا وَأَعْطِ الْآخَرَ امْرَأَتَكَ تَخْتَمِرُ بِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَمَّا أَدْبَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَأْمُرِ امْرَأَتَكَ أَنْ تَجْعَلَ تَحْتَهُ ثَوْبًا لَا يَصِفُهَا ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد:‏‏‏‏ رَوَاهُ يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ عَبَّاسُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ.
دحیہ بن خلیفہ کلبی رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس کچھ سفید اور باریک مصری کپڑے لائے گئے تو ان میں سے آپ نے مجھے بھی ایک باریک کپڑا دیا، اور فرمایا: اس کو پھاڑ کر دو ٹکڑے کر لو ان میں ایک کا کرتہ بنا لو اور دوسرا ٹکڑا اپنی بیوی کو دے دو وہ اس کی اوڑھنی بنا لے پھر جب وہ پیٹھ پھیر کر جانے لگے تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: اپنی بیوی سے کہو اس کے نیچے ایک اور کپڑا کر لے تاکہ اس کا بدن ظاہر نہ ہو ۔

Safiyyah, daughter of Abu Ubayd, said: When the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم mentioned lower garment, Umm Salamah, wife of the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم, asked him: And a woman, Messenger of Allah? He replied: She may hang down a span. Umm Salamah said: Still it (foot) will be uncovered. He said: Then a forearm's length, nor exceeding it.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم gave licence to others of the believers (i. e. the wives of the Prophet) to hang down their lower garment a span. Then they asked him to increase it, and he increased one span for them. They would send (the garment) to us and we would measure it one forearm's length for them.

Ibn Abbas said - (Musaddad and Wahb transmitted from Maimunah) Maimunah said: A sheep was given in alms to a female client of ours, but it died. The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم passed it and said: Why did you not tan its skin and get some good out of it ? They replied: Messenger of Allah, it died a natural death. He said: It is only the eating of it that is prohibited.

Mamar said: Al-Zuhri used to deny tanning and say: Some good can be got out of it in any condition Abu Dawud said: Al-Auzai, Yunus and 'Uqail did not mention tanning. al-Zubaidi, Saeed bin Abd al-Aziz and Hafs bin Abd al-Aziz mentioned tanning.
