Jabir said: We were with Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم and he asked for something to drink. A man from the company asked: Should we not give you nabidh (drink made from dates) to drink ? He replied: Yes. The man went quickly and bought a cup of nabidh. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Why did you not cover it up even by putting a piece of wood on it ? Abu Dawud said: Al-Asmai's version has: You put it on it. . .

حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ جَابِرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَاسْتَسْقَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ:‏‏‏‏ أَلَا نَسْقِيكَ نَبِيذًا ؟، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ بَلَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَخَرَجَ الرَّجُلُ يَشْتَدُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَجَاءَ بِقَدَحٍ فِيهِ نَبِيذٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ أَلَا خَمَّرْتَهُ وَلَوْ أَنْ تَعْرِضَ عَلَيْهِ عُودًا ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ الْأَصْمَعِيُّ:‏‏‏‏ تَعْرِضُهُ عَلَيْهِ.

جابر رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں ہم لوگ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ تھے آپ نے پانی طلب کیا تو قوم میں سے ایک شخص نے عرض کیا: کیا ہم آپ کو نبیذ نہ پلا دیں؟ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ہاں ( کوئی مضائقہ نہیں ) تو وہ نکلا اور دوڑ کر ایک پیالہ نبیذ لے آیا، نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: تو نے اسے ڈھک کیوں نہیں لیا؟ ایک لکڑی ہی سے سہی جو اس کے عرض ( چوڑان ) میں رکھ لیتا ۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: اصمعی نے کہا: «تعرضه عليه» یعنی تو اسے اس پر چوڑان میں رکھ لیتا۔

Abdullah bin Umar reported the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as sayings: when one of you is invited for a wedding feast, he must attend it.

The tradition mentioned above has also been transmitted by Ibn Umar to the same effect through a different chain of narrators. This version has the additional words: If he is not fasting, he should eat, and if he is fasting, he should leave it.

Ibn Umar reported the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: if one of you invites his brother, he should accept (the invitation), whether it is a wedding feast or something of that nature.
