Abdullah bin Umar reported the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as sayings: when one of you is invited for a wedding feast, he must attend it.

حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مَالِكٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ نَافِعٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا دُعِيَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى الْوَلِيمَةِ فَلْيَأْتِهَا .

عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: جب تم میں سے کوئی ولیمہ کی دعوت میں مدعو کیا جائے تو اسے چاہیئے کہ اس میں آئے ۱؎ ۔

The tradition mentioned above has also been transmitted by Ibn Umar to the same effect through a different chain of narrators. This version has the additional words: If he is not fasting, he should eat, and if he is fasting, he should leave it.

Ibn Umar reported the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: if one of you invites his brother, he should accept (the invitation), whether it is a wedding feast or something of that nature.

Jabir reported the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as sayings: when one of you is invited to a meal, he must accept. If he wishes he may eat, but if he wishes (to leave), he may leave.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: He who does not accept an invitation which he receives has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger of, and he who enters without invitation enters as a thief and goes out as a raider. Abu Dawud said: Aban bin Tariq is unknown.

Abu Hurairah said: The worst kind of food is that at a wedding feast to which the rich are invited and from which the poor are left out. If anyone does not attend the feast to which he was invited, he has disobeyed Allah and His Messenger (may peace upon him).
