Abu Hudhaifah reported: The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم met me on one of the streets of Madina while I was sexually defiled. I retreated and went away. I then took a bath and came to him. He asked: Where were you, O Abu Hurairah? I replied: As I was sexually defiled, I disliked to sit in your company without purification. He exclaimed: Glory be to Allah! A Muslim is not defiled. He (Abu Dawud) said: The version of this tradition reported by Bishr has the chain: Humaid reported from Bakr.

He said: Turn the direction of the houses from the mosque. Abu Dawud said: This tradition has been narrated al-Zuhri from Abu Salamah bin Abdur-Rahman on the authority of Abu Hurairah. He then went away and took a bath. This tradition has also been narrated through a different chain. It says: The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم uttered takbir (Allah-u-akbar) in a prayer. When he stood at his proper place he recalled that he did not take a bath. He then said to the people: (Remain standing) at your places. Then he returned to his house and came out upon us after taking a bath while the drops of water were coming down from his head. We were standing in the rows (of prayer). This is the version of Ibn Harb. Ayyash reported in his version: we kept on waiting for him while we were standing until he came upon us after he had taken a bath.

He replied: He should take a bath. He was asked about a person who remembered that he had a sexual dream but did not find moisture. He replied: Bath is not necessary for him. Umm Salamah then asked: Is washing necessary for a woman if she sees that (in her dream)? He replied: Yes. Woman are counterpart of men.
