Jabir b. 'Abdullah reported: I heard Allah'. s Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) as saying: Food for one person suffices two persons and food for two persons suffices four persons, and food for four persons suffices eight persons; and in the tradition transmitted on the authority of Ishaq there is no mention of the fact that he heard it directly (from the Holy Prophet).

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ أَخْبَرَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ح و حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ حَبِيبٍ حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ طَعَامُ الْوَاحِدِ يَكْفِي الِاثْنَيْنِ وَطَعَامُ الِاثْنَيْنِ يَكْفِي الْأَرْبَعَةَ وَطَعَامُ الْأَرْبَعَةِ يَكْفِي الثَّمَانِيَةَ وَفِي رِوَايَةِ إِسْحَقَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمْ يَذْكُرْ سَمِعْتُ

اسحاق بن ابراہیم اور یحییٰ بن حبیب نے روح بن عبادہ سے حدیث بیان کی ، کہا : ہمیں ابن جریج نےبتایا ، کہا : مجھے ابو زبیر نے خبر دی کہ انھوں نے حضرت جابر بن عبداللہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے سنا ، وہ کہہ رہے تھے : میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے سنا کہ آپ فرمارہے تھے : "" ایک آدمی کا کھانا دو کےلیے کافی ہوجاتا ہے ۔ اور دو کا کھانا چار کے لئے کافی ہوجاتا ہے ۔ اور چار کا کھانا آٹھ کے لئے کافی ہوجاتا ہے ۔ "" اور اسحاق کی روایت میں ہے : ( حضرت جابر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے کہا : ) رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نےفرمایا : "" میں نے سنا "" کے الفاظ ذکر نہیں کیے ۔
