Ibn 'Abbas reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him.) as saying: When any one of you eats food he should not wipe his hand until he has licked it himself or has given it to someone else to lick.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَعَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ وَإِسْحَقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ قَالَ إِسْحَقُ أَخْبَرَنَا و قَالَ الْآخَرُونَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَمْرٍو عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا أَكَلَ أَحَدُكُمْ طَعَامًا فَلَا يَمْسَحْ يَدَهُ حَتَّى يَلْعَقَهَا أَوْ يُلْعِقَهَا

عمرو نے عطاء سے ، انھوں نے حضرت ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت کی ، کہا : رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا : " جب تم میں سے کوئی شخص کھانا کھائے تو اس وقت تک اپنا ہاتھ صاف نہ کرے جب تک اسے ( اپنی انگلیوں کو ) خود نہ چاٹ لے یا کسی اور کو نہ چٹوالے ۔ " ( جسےمحبت ہو وہ چاٹ سکتا ہے ۔ )

Ibn 'Abbas reported Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) as saying: When any one of you eats food he should not wipe his hand until he has licked it or got it licked by (someone else).

Ibn Ka'b b. Malik reported on the authority of his father that he saw Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) licking his three fingers (after having finished the food). Ibn Hatim made no mention of three . This hadith is also narrated through another chain of transmitters.

Ibn Ka'b b. Malik reported on the authority of his father that the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) used to eat (food) with three fingers and he licked his hand before wiping it (with towel).

Abdullah b. Ka'b reported that his father Ka'b narrated to him that Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) used to eat with three fingers and when he had finished (eating), he licked them.

Jabir reported that Allah's Messenger ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) commanded the licking of fingers and the dish, saying: You do not know in what portion the blessing lies.
