Hafsa reported that when it was dawn, the Messenger of Allah ( صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ) did not observe (any other prayers) but two short rak'ahs.

و حَدَّثَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ نَافِعًا يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ حَفْصَةَ قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ لَا يُصَلِّي إِلَّا رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ

محمد بن جعفر نے کہا : ہمیں شعبہ نے زید بن محمد سے حدیث سنائی ، انھوں نے کہا : میں نے نافع سے سنا ، وہ حضرت ابن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے حدیث بیان کرتے تھے اور وہ حضرت حفصہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا سے روایت بیان کررہے تھے حضرت حفصہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا نے کہا : جب فجر طلوع ہوجاتی تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم دو مختصر رکعتوں کے سوا کوئی نماز نہ پڑھتے تھے ۔
