Narrated Ubaidullah bin Hafs: that `Umar bin Nafi` told him that Nafi`, Maula `Abdullah had heard `Umar saying, I heard Allah's Apostle forbidding Al-Qaza'. 'Ubaidullah added: I said, What is Al-Qaza'? 'Ubaidullah pointed (towards his head) to show us and added, Nafi` said, 'It is when a boy has his head shaved leaving a tuft of hair here and a tuft of hair there. Ubaidullah pointed towards his forehead and the sides of his head. 'Ubaidullah was asked, Does this apply to both girls and boys? He said, I don't know, but Nafi` said, 'The boy.' 'Ubaidullah added, I asked Nafi` again, and he said, 'As for leaving hair on the temples and the back part of the boy's head, there is no harm, but Al-Qaza' is to leave a tuft of hair on his forehead unshaved while there is no hair on the rest of his head, and also to leave hair on either side of his head.'

حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدٌ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي مَخْلَدٌ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ حَفْصٍ ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ نَافِعٍ ، أَخْبَرَهُ عَنْ نَافِعٍ مَوْلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : يَنْهَى عَنِ الْقَزَعِ قَالَ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ : قُلْتُ : وَمَا الْقَزَعُ ؟ فَأَشَارَ لَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ قَالَ : إِذَا حَلَقَ الصَّبِيَّ وَتَرَكَ هَا هُنَا شَعَرَةً وَهَهُنَا وَهَهُنَا ، فَأَشَارَ لَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ إِلَى نَاصِيَتِهِ وَجَانِبَيْ رَأْسِهِ قِيلَ لِعُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ : فَالْجَارِيَةُ وَالْغُلَامُ ، قَالَ : لَا أَدْرِي ، هَكَذَا قَالَ : الصَّبِيُّ ، قَالَ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ : وَعَاوَدْتُهُ ، فَقَالَ : أَمَّا الْقُصَّةُ وَالْقَفَا لِلْغُلَامِ فَلَا بَأْسَ بِهِمَا ، وَلَكِنَّ الْقَزَعَ أَنْ يُتْرَكَ بِنَاصِيَتِهِ شَعَرٌ وَلَيْسَ فِي رَأْسِهِ غَيْرُهُ ، وَكَذَلِكَ شَقُّ رَأْسِهِ هَذَا وَهَذَا .

مجھ سے محمد بن سلام نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ مجھے مخلد بن یزید نے خبر دی، کہا کہ مجھے ابن جریج نے خبر دی، کہا کہ مجھے عبیداللہ بن حفص نے خبر دی، انہیں عمرو بن نافع نے خبر دی، انہیں عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما کے غلام نافع نے کہ انہوں نے ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے سنا، وہ بیان کرتے تھے کہ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے سنا ہے آپ نے «قزع‏.‏» سے منع فرمایا، عبیداللہ کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے نافع سے پوچھا کہ «قزع‏.‏» کیا ہے؟ پھر عبیداللہ نے ہمیں اشارہ سے بتایا کہ نافع نے کہا کہ بچہ کا سر منڈاتے وقت کچھ یہاں چھوڑ دے اور کچھ بال وہاں چھوڑ دے۔ ( تو اسے «قزع‏.‏» کہتے ہیں ) اسے عبیداللہ نے پیشانی اور سر کے دونوں کناروں کی طرف اشارہ کر کے ہمیں اس کی صورت بتائی۔ عبیداللہ نے اس کی تفسیر یوں بیان کی یعنی پیشانی پر کچھ بال چھوڑ دیئے جائیں اور سر کے دونوں کونوں پر کچھ بال چھوڑ دیئے جائیں۔ پھر عبیداللہ سے پوچھا گیا کہ اس میں لڑکا اور لڑکی دونوں کا ایک ہی حکم ہے؟ فرمایا کہ مجھے معلوم نہیں۔ نافع نے صرف لڑکے کا لفظ کہا تھا۔ عبیداللہ نے بیان کیا کہ میں نے عمرو بن نافع سے دوبارہ اس کے متعلق پوچھا تو انہوں نے کہا کہ لڑکے کی کنپٹی یا گدی پر چوٹی کے بال اگر چھوڑ دیئے جائیں تو کوئی حرج نہیں ہے لیکن «قزع‏.‏» یہ ہے کہ پیشانی پر بال چھوڑ دیئے جائیں اور باقی سب منڈوائے جائیں اسی طرح سر کے اس جانب میں اور اس جانب میں۔

Narrated Sa`d: A man peeped into the house of the Prophet through a hole while the Prophet was scratching his head with a Midrai (a certain kind of comb). On that the Prophet said (to him), If I had known you had been looking, then I would have pierced your eye with that instrument, because the asking of permission has been ordained so that one would not see things unlawfully.
