Narrated Ibn `Umar: Allah's Apostle said, The example of the person who knows the Qur'an by heart is like the owner of tied camels. If he keeps them tied, he will control them, but if he releases them, they will run away.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : إِنَّمَا مَثَلُ صَاحِبِ الْقُرْآنِ كَمَثَلِ صَاحِبِ الْإِبِلِ الْمُعَقَّلَةِ ، إِنْ عَاهَدَ عَلَيْهَا أَمْسَكَهَا ، وَإِنْ أَطْلَقَهَا ذَهَبَتْ .

ہم سے عبداللہ بن یوسف نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا ہم کو امام مالک نے خبر دی، انہیں نافع نے اور انہیں عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ حافظ قرآن کی مثال رسی سے بندھے ہوئے اونٹ کے مالک جیسی ہے اور وہ اس کی نگرانی رکھے گا تو وہ اسے روک سکے گا ورنہ وہ رسی تڑوا کر بھاگ جائے گا۔
