Narrated `Abdullah: The first Sura in which a prostration was mentioned, was Sura An-Najm (The Star). Allah's Messenger prostrated (while reciting it), and everybody behind him prostrated except a man whom I saw taking a hand-full of dust in his hand and prostrated on it. Later I saw that man killed as an infidel, and he was Umaiya bin Khalaf.

حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو أَحْمَدَ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : أَوَّلُ سُورَةٍ أُنْزِلَتْ فِيهَا سَجْدَةٌ وَالنَّجْمِ ، قَالَ : فَسَجَدَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَسَجَدَ مَنْ خَلْفَهُ إِلَّا رَجُلًا رَأَيْتُهُ أَخَذَ كَفًّا مِنْ تُرَابٍ ، فَسَجَدَ عَلَيْهِ ، فَرَأَيْتُهُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ قُتِلَ كَافِرًا وَهُوَ أُمَيَّةُ بْنُ خَلَفٍ .

ہم سے نصر بن علی نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم کو ابواحمد زبیری نے خبر دی، کہا ہم کو اسرائیل نے خبر دی، ان سے ابواسحاق نے، ان سے اسود بن یزید نے اور ان سے عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ نے بیان کیا کہ سب سے پہلے نازل ہونے والی سجدہ والی سورت سورۃ النجم ہے۔ بیان کیا کہ پھر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ( اس کی تلاوت کے بعد ) سجدہ کیا اور جتنے لوگ آپ کے پیچھے تھے سب ہی نے آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ سجدہ کیا، سوا ایک شخص کے، میں نے دیکھا کہ اس نے اپنی ہتھیلی میں مٹی اٹھائی اور اسی پر سجدہ کر لیا۔ بعد میں ( بدر کی لڑائی میں ) میں نے اسے دیکھا کہ کفر کی حالت میں وہ قتل کیا ہوا پڑا ہے۔ وہ شخص امیہ بن خلف تھا۔

Narrated Ibn Masud: During the lifetime of Allah's Messenger the moon was split into two parts; one part remained over the mountain, and the other part went beyond the mountain. On that, Allah's Messenger said, Witness this miracle.

Narrated `Abdullah: The moon was cleft asunder while we were in the company of the Prophet, and it became two parts. The Prophet said, Witness, witness (this miracle).
