Narrated Ibn Masud: During the lifetime of Allah's Messenger the moon was split into two parts; one part remained over the mountain, and the other part went beyond the mountain. On that, Allah's Messenger said, Witness this miracle.

حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، وَسُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَعْمَرٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، قَالَ : انْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِرْقَتَيْنِ ، فِرْقَةً فَوْقَ الْجَبَلِ ، وَفِرْقَةً دُونَهُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : اشْهَدُوا .

ہم سے مسدد نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے یحییٰ نے بیان کیا، ان سے شعبہ اور سفیان نے اور ان سے اعمش نے، ان سے ابراہیم نے، ان سے ابومعمر نے اور ان سے عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ نے بیان کیا کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے زمانے میں چاند دو ٹکڑے ہو گیا تھا ایک ٹکڑا پہاڑ کے اوپر اور دوسرا اس کے پیچھے چلا گیا تھا۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اسی موقع پر ہم سے فرمایا تھا کہ گواہ رہنا۔

Narrated `Abdullah: The moon was cleft asunder while we were in the company of the Prophet, and it became two parts. The Prophet said, Witness, witness (this miracle).
