Narrated Ibn `Abbas: The moon was cleft asunder during the lifetime of the Prophet.

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي بَكْرٌ ، عَنْ جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ عِرَاكِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، قَالَ : انْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ فِي زَمَانِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .

ہم سے یحییٰ بن بکیر نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ مجھ سے بکر نے بیان کیا، ان سے جعفر نے، ان سے عراک بن مالک نے، ان سے عبیداللہ بن عبداللہ بن عتبہ بن مسعود نے بیان کیا کہ عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے بیان کیا کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے زمانے میں چاند پھٹ گیا تھا۔

Narrated Anas: The people of Mecca asked the Prophet to show them a sign (miracle). So he showed them (the miracle) of the cleaving of the moon.

Narrated Abu 'Is-haq: A man asked Al-Aswad, 'is it 'Fahal min-Muddakir' or'..Mudhdhakir? Al Aswad replied, 'I have heard `Abdullah bin Masud reciting it, 'Fahal-min Muddakir'; I too, heard the Prophet reciting it 'Fahal-min-Muddakir' with 'd'.

Narrated `Abdullah: The Prophet recited: 'Fahal-min-Muddakir' And Verily an abiding torment seized them early in the morning So, taste you My torment and My warnings' (54.38-39)
