Narrated Al-Bara: We used to say that the warriors of Badr were over three-hundred-and-ten, as many as the Companions of Saul who crossed the river with him; and none crossed the river with him but a believer.
حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ الْبَرَاءِ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْأَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ الْبَرَاءِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا نَتَحَدَّثُ أَنَّ أَصْحَابَ بَدْرٍ ثَلَاثُ مِائَةٍ وَبِضْعَةَ عَشَرَ , بِعِدَّةِ أَصْحَابِ طَالُوتَ الَّذِينَ جَاوَزُوا مَعَهُ النَّهَرَ , وَمَا جَاوَزَ مَعَهُ إِلَّا مُؤْمِنٌ .
مجھ سے عبداللہ بن ابی شیبہ نے بیان کیا، ہم سے یحییٰ بن سعید قطان نے بیان کیا، ان سے سفیان ثوری نے، ان سے ابواسحاق نے اور ان سے براء رضی اللہ عنہ نے (دوسری سند) اور ہم سے محمد بن کثیر نے بیان کیا، انہیں سفیان نے خبر دی، انہیں ابواسحاق نے اور ان سے براء بن عازب رضی اللہ عنہ نے بیان کیا کہ   ہم آپس میں یہ گفتگو کیا کرتے تھے کہ جنگ بدر میں اصحاب بدر کی تعداد بھی تین سو دس سے اوپر، کچھ اوپر تھی، جتنی ان اصحاب طالوت کی تعداد تھی جنہوں نے ان کے ساتھ نہر فلسطین پار کی تھی اور اسے پار کرنے والے صرف ایماندار ہی تھے۔

Narrated `Abdullah bin Mas`ud: The Prophet faced the Ka`ba and invoked evil on some people of Quraish, on Shaiba bin Rabi`a, `Utba bin Rabi`a, Al-Walid bin `Utba and Abu Jahl bin Hisham. I bear witness, by Allah, that I saw them all dead, putrefied by the sun as that day was a very hot day.

Ibn Mas`ud went and found that the two sons of 'Afra had struck him fatally (and he was in his last breaths). `Abdullah bin Mas`ud said, Are you Abu Jahl? And took him by the beard. Abu Jahl said, Can there be a man superior to one you have killed or one whom his own folk have killed?

Narrated Abu Mijlaz: From Qais bin Ubad: `Ali bin Abi Talib said, I shall be the first man to kneel down before (Allah), the Beneficent to receive His judgment on the day of Resurrection (in my favor). Qais bin Ubad also said, The following Verse was revealed in their connection:-- These two opponents believers and disbelievers) Dispute with each other About their Lord. (22.19) Qais said that they were those who fought on the day of Badr, namely, Hamza, `Ali, 'Ubaida or Abu 'Ubaida bin Al-Harith, Shaiba bin Rabi`a, `Utba and Al-Wahd bin `Utba.
