Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah (ra): A boy was born to one of our men, the Ansar, and he wanted to name him Muhammad. Then Ansari man said, I took the boy to the Prophet (saws). The Prophet (saws) said, Name your child by my name, but do not name (them) by my Kunya, for I have been made Qasim (i.e., a distributor) to distribute (the booty etc.) amongst you. The narrator, Husain said that the Prophet (saws) said, I have been sent as a Qasim (i.e., distributor) to distribute (things) amongst you. [The Sub narrator Salim said that he heard Jabir saying that the man wanted to name the boy Al-Qasim, but the Prophet (saws) said, Call (your sons) by my name, but do not name (them) by my Kunya. ]

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ وَمَنْصُورٍ وَقَتَادَةَ ، سمعوا سالم بن أبي الجعد ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، قَالَ : وُلِدَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنَّا مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ غُلَامٌ فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يُسَمِّيَهُ مُحَمَّدًا ، قَالَ شُعْبَةُ : فِي حَدِيثِ مَنْصُورٍ إِنَّ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ ، قَالَ : حَمَلْتُهُ عَلَى عُنُقِي فَأَتَيْتُ بِهِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَفِي حَدِيثِ سُلَيْمَانَ وُلِدَ لَهُ غُلَامٌ فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يُسَمِّيَهُ مُحَمَّدًا ، قَالَ : سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي ، فَإِنِّي إِنَّمَا جُعِلْتُ قَاسِمًا أَقْسِمُ بَيْنَكُمْ ، وَقَالَ حُصَيْنٌ : بُعِثْتُ قَاسِمًا أَقْسِمُ بَيْنَكُمْ ، قَالَ : عَمْرٌو ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ سَالِمًا ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ أَرَادَ أَنْ يُسَمِّيَهُ الْقَاسِمَ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي .

ہم سے ابوولید نے بیان کیا ‘ کہا ہم سے شعبہ نے بیان کیا ‘ ان سے سلیمان ‘ منصور اور قتادہ نے ‘ انہوں نے سالم بن ابی الجعد سے سنا اور ان سے جابر بن عبداللہ رضی اللہ عنہما نے بیان کیا کہ ہم انصاریوں کے قبیلہ میں ایک انصاری کے گھر بچہ پیدا ہو تو انہوں نے بچے کا نام محمد رکھنے کا ارادہ کیا اور شعبہ نے منصور سے روایت کر کے بیان کیا ہے کہ ان انصاری نے بیان کیا ( جن کے یہاں بچہ پیدا ہوا تھا ) کہ میں بچے کو اپنی گردن پر اٹھا کر نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا۔ اور سلیمان کی روایت میں ہے کہ ان کے یہاں بچہ پیدا ہوا ‘ تو انہوں نے اس کا نام محمد رکھنا چاہا ‘ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس پر فرمایا کہ میرے نام پر نام رکھو ‘ لیکن میری کنیت ( ابوالقاسم ) پر کنیت نہ رکھنا ‘ کیونکہ مجھے تقسیم کرنے والا ( قاسم ) بنایا گیا ہے۔ میں تم میں تقسیم کرتا ہوں ‘ اور حصین نے ( اپنی روایت میں ) یوں بیان کیا ‘ کہ مجھے تقسیم کرنے والا ( قاسم ) بنا کر بھیجا گیا ہے ‘ میں تم میں تقسیم کرتا ہوں۔ عمرو بن مرزوق نے کہا کہ ہمیں شعبہ نے خبر دی ‘ ان سے قتادہ نے بیان کیا ‘ انہوں نے سالم سے سنا انہوں نے جابر رضی اللہ عنہ سے کہ ان انصاری صحابی نے اپنے بچے کا نام قاسم رکھنا چاہا تھا تو نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ میرے نام پر نام رکھو لیکن کنیت نہ رکھو۔

Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah Al-Ansari: A man amongst us begot a boy whom he named Al-Qasim. On that the Ansar said, (to the man), We will never call you Abu-al-Qasim and will never please you with this blessed title. So, he went to the Prophet and said, O Allah's Apostle! I have begotten a boy whom I named Al-Qasim and the Ansar said, 'We will never call you Abu-al-Qasim, nor will we please you with this title.' The Prophet said, The Ansar have done well. Name by my name, but do not name by my Kunya, for I am Qasim.

p>Narrated Muawiya: Allah's Apostle said, If Allah wants to do good for somebody, he makes him comprehend the Religion (i.e. Islam), and Allah is the Giver and I am Al-Qasim (i.e. the distributor), and this (Muslim) nation will remain victorious over their opponents, till Allah's Order comes and they will still be victorious
