Translation

Ali narrated that : The Messenger of Allah said: Whoever has the provisions and the means to convey him to Allah's House and he does not perform Hajj, then it does not matter if he dies as a Jew or a Christian. That is because Allah said in His Book: 'And Hajj to the House is a duty that mankind owes to Allah, for whomever is able to bear the journey.'

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الْقُطَعِيُّ الْبَصْرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، حَدَّثَنَا هِلَالُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مَوْلَى رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ الْبَاهِلِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاق الْهَمْدَانِيُّ، عَنْ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ مَنْ مَلَكَ زَادًا وَرَاحِلَةً تُبَلِّغُهُ إِلَى بَيْتِ اللَّهِ وَلَمْ يَحُجَّ فَلَا عَلَيْهِ أَنْ يَمُوتَ يَهُودِيًّا أَوْ نَصْرَانِيًّا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَذَلِكَ أَنَّ اللَّهَ يَقُولُ فِي كِتَابِهِ:‏‏‏‏ وَلِلَّهِ عَلَى النَّاسِ حِجُّ الْبَيْتِ مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ إِلَيْهِ سَبِيلا سورة آل عمران آية 97 . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ لَا نَعْرِفُهُ إِلَّا مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَفِي إِسْنَادِهِ مَقَالٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهِلَالُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مَجْهُولٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالْحَارِثُ يُضَعَّفُ فِي الْحَدِيثِ.

علی رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”سفر کے خرچ اور سواری کا مالک ہو جو اسے بیت اللہ تک پہنچا سکے اور وہ حج نہ کرے تو اس میں کوئی فرق نہیں کہ وہ یہودی ہو کر مرے یا عیسائی ہو کر، اور یہ اس لیے کہ اللہ نے اپنی کتاب ( قرآن ) میں فرمایا ہے: ”اللہ کے لیے بیت اللہ کا حج کرنا لوگوں پر فرض ہے جو اس تک پہنچنے کی استطاعت رکھتے ہوں“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث غریب ہے ۱؎، ہم اسے صرف اسی سند سے جانتے ہیں، ۲- اس کی سند میں کلام ہے۔ ہلال بن عبداللہ مجہول راوی ہیں۔ اور حارث حدیث میں ضعیف گردانے جاتے ہیں۔

Ibn Umar narrated: A man came to the Prophet and said: 'O Messenger of Allah! What is it that makes Hajj obligatory?' He said: The provisions and a means of conveyance.

Ali bin Abi Talib narrated: When Allah revealed: And Hajj to the House is a duty that mankind owes to Allah, for whomever is able to bear the journey. They said: 'O Messenger of Allah! Is that every year?' He remained silent. So they said: 'O Messenger of Allah! Is that every year?' He said: 'No. If I had said yes, then it would have been made obligatory.' So Allah revealed: O you who believe! Do not ask about things which, if made plain to you, may cause you trouble.

Jabir bin Abdullah narrated: The Prophet performed Hajj three times. He performed Hajj twice before his emigration, and he performed one Hajj after he emigrated, and these were accompanied by Umrah. So he drove sixty-three sacrificial animals (Budn) and Ali came from Yemen with the rest of them, among them was a camel of Abu Jahl that has a ring made of silver in its nose.
