Aishah narrated: When the Prophet (S) did not pray at night because he was prevented from it by sleep or being sleepy then he would pray twelve Rak'ah during the daytime.

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ زُرَارَةَ بْنِ أَوْفَى، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا لَمْ يُصَلِّ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ مَنَعَهُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ النَّوْمُ أَوْ غَلَبَتْهُ عَيْنَاهُ صَلَّى مِنَ النَّهَارِ ثِنْتَيْ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ وسَعْدُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ هُوَ:‏‏‏‏ ابْنُ عَامِرٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهِشَامُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ هُوَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عَبَّاسٌ هُوَ ابْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَظِيمِ الْعَنْبَرِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عَتَّابُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ بَهْزِ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ زُرَارَةُ بْنُ أَوْفَى قَاضِيَ الْبَصْرَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَكَانَ يَؤُمُّ فِي بَنِي قُشَيْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَرَأَ يَوْمًا فِي صَلَاةِ الصُّبْحِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِي النَّاقُورِ فَذَلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ خَرَّ مَيِّتًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَكُنْتُ فِيمَنِ احْتَمَلَهُ إِلَى دَارِهِ .

ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی الله عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم جب رات میں تہجد نہیں پڑھ پاتے تھے اور نیند اس میں رکاوٹ بن جاتی یا آپ پر نیند کا غلبہ ہو جاتا تو دن میں ( اس کے بدلہ میں ) بارہ رکعتیں پڑھتے ۱؎۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- سعد بن ہشام ہی ابن عامر انصاری ہیں اور ہشام بن عامر نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے اصحاب میں سے ہیں۔ بہز بن حکیم سے روایت ہے کہ زرارہ بن اوفی بصرہ کے قاضی تھے۔ وہ بنی قشیر کی امامت کرتے تھے، انہوں نے ایک دن فجر میں آیت کریمہ «‏فإذا نقر في الناقور * فذلك يومئذ يوم عسير» ”جب صور پھونکا جائے گا تو وہ دن سخت دن ہو گا“ پڑھی تو وہ بیہوش ہو کر گر پڑے اور مر گئے۔ میں بھی ان لوگوں میں شامل تھا جو انہیں اٹھا کر ان کے گھر لے گئے۔

Abu Hurairah narrated that: Allah's Messenger (S) said: Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, descends to the earth's heaven every night when the first third of the night has passed. He says: I am the Sovereign. Is there any who calls upon Me so that I may respond to him? Is there any who asks of Me that I may give him? Is there any who seeks forgiveness from Me so that I may forgive him?' He continues in that until the illumination of Al-Fajr.

Abu Qatadah narrated that : The Prophet (S) said to Abu Bakr: I passed by you while you were reciting and your voice was low. He said: I let He who, I was consulting hear. He said: Raise your voice. Then he said to Umar: I passed by while you were reciting and your voice was loud. So he said: I repel drowsiness and keep Ash-Shaitan away. So he said: Lower your voice.

Abdullah bin Abi Qais narrated: I asked Aishah how the recitation of the Prophet (S) was at night. [Would he recite silently o audibly?] So she said: 'He would do both of those. Sometimes he was silent with his recitation and sometimes it was audible.' So I said: 'All praise is due to Allah, the One who made the matter broad.'
