Abu Hurairah narrated that: Allah's Messenger (S) said: Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, descends to the earth's heaven every night when the first third of the night has passed. He says: I am the Sovereign. Is there any who calls upon Me so that I may respond to him? Is there any who asks of Me that I may give him? Is there any who seeks forgiveness from Me so that I may forgive him?' He continues in that until the illumination of Al-Fajr.

حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْإِسْكَنْدَرَانِيُّ، عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَنْزِلُ اللَّهُ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا كُلَّ لَيْلَةٍ حِينَ يَمْضِي ثُلُثُ اللَّيْلِ الْأَوَّلُ فَيَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ أَنَا الْمَلِكُ مَنْ ذَا الَّذِي يَدْعُونِي فَأَسْتَجِيبَ لَهُ مَنْ ذَا الَّذِي يَسْأَلُنِي فَأُعْطِيَهُ مَنْ ذَا الَّذِي يَسْتَغْفِرُنِي فَأَغْفِرَ لَهُ فَلَا يَزَالُ كَذَلِكَ حَتَّى يُضِيءَ الْفَجْرُ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَأَبِي سَعِيدٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَرِفَاعَةَ الْجُهَنِيِّ،‏‏‏‏ وَجُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَأَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ،‏‏‏‏ وَعُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ حَدِيثُ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَدْ رُوِيَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ مِنْ أَوْجُهٍ كَثِيرَةٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَرُوِيَ عَنْهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّهُ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَنْزِلُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ حِينَ يَبْقَى ثُلُثُ اللَّيْلِ الْآخِرُ وَهُوَ أَصَحُّ الرِّوَايَاتِ.

ابوہریرہ رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”اللہ تعالیٰ ہر رات کو جب رات کا پہلا تہائی حصہ گزر جاتا ہے ۱؎ آسمان دنیا پر اترتا ہے ۲؎ اور کہتا ہے: میں بادشاہ ہوں، کون ہے جو مجھے پکارے تاکہ میں اس کی پکار سنوں، کون ہے جو مجھ سے مانگے تاکہ میں اسے دوں، کون ہے جو مجھ سے مغفرت طلب کرے تاکہ میں اسے معاف کر دوں۔ وہ برابر اسی طرح فرماتا رہتا ہے یہاں تک کہ فجر روشن ہو جاتی ہیں“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- اس باب میں علی بن ابی طالب، ابوسعید، رفاعہ جہنی، جبیر بن مطعم، ابن مسعود، ابو درداء اور عثمان بن ابی العاص رضی الله عنہم سے بھی احادیث آئی ہیں، ۲- ابوہریرہ رضی الله عنہ کی حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۳- ابوہریرہ رضی الله عنہ سے یہ حدیث کئی سندوں سے نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے مروی ہے، ۴- نیز آپ سے یہ بھی روایت کی گئی ہے کہ آپ نے فرمایا: ”اللہ تعالیٰ جب وقت رات کا آخری تہائی حصہ باقی رہ جاتا ہے اترتا ہے“، اور یہ سب سے زیادہ صحیح روایت ہے۔

Abu Qatadah narrated that : The Prophet (S) said to Abu Bakr: I passed by you while you were reciting and your voice was low. He said: I let He who, I was consulting hear. He said: Raise your voice. Then he said to Umar: I passed by while you were reciting and your voice was loud. So he said: I repel drowsiness and keep Ash-Shaitan away. So he said: Lower your voice.

Aishah narrated: The Prophet (S) stood (in prayer) with an Ayah from the Qur'an at night

Abdullah bin Abi Qais narrated: I asked Aishah how the recitation of the Prophet (S) was at night. [Would he recite silently o audibly?] So she said: 'He would do both of those. Sometimes he was silent with his recitation and sometimes it was audible.' So I said: 'All praise is due to Allah, the One who made the matter broad.'

Zaid bin Thabit narrated that: The Prophet (S) said: The most virtuous prayer of yours is in your homes, except for the obligatory.
