Zirr bin Hubaish said: “I came to Safwan bin `Assal Al-Muradi so he said to me: ‘What has brought you, O Zirr?’ So I said: ‘The desire for knowledge.’ So he said: ‘It has been conveyed to me that the angels lower their wings for the seeker of knowledge, out of pleasure with what he is doing.’” He said: “So I said to him: ‘Indeed there is something wavering’ - or - ‘some doubt in my chest concerning wiping over the Khuff after defecation. So have you retained anything from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) concerning that?’ He said: ‘Yes, when we were travelers, he (ﷺ) used to order us not to remove our Khuff for three days and nights, except from sexual impurity, but not from defecation, urination, and sleep.’” He said: “So I said: ‘So have you memorized anything from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) concerning love?’ He said: ‘Yes, we were in one of our journeys with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) when a man, a harsh, foolish Bedouin, who had been at the end of the group, called him with a loud voice, saying: “O Muhammad! O Muhammad!” So the people said to him “Mah! Indeed, you have been prohibited from this.” So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) responded to him with similar to his voice: “Come.” So he said: “A man loves a people but he has not reached them?” He said: ‘So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “A man is with whomever he loves.”’ Zirr said: “He did not cease reporting to me until he had reported that Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, has appointed a gate in the west - its width is the distance of a seventy-year journey - for repentance: it shall not be locked until the sun rises from its direction, and that is the Statement of Allah, Blessed be He and Most High, of the Ayah: The Day some of the signs of your Lord come, no soul shall be benefited by its believing.”

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ الضَّبِّيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ، عَنْ زِرِّ بْنِ حُبَيْشٍ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَتَيْتُ صَفْوَانَ بْنَ عَسَّالٍ الْمُرَادِيَّ، فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَا جَاءَ بِكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ ابْتِغَاءَ الْعِلْمِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّ الْمَلَائِكَةَ تَضَعُ أَجْنِحَتَهَا لِطَالِبِ الْعِلْمِ رِضًا بِمَا يَفْعَلُ . (حديث مرفوع) (حديث موقوف) قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قُلْتُ لَهُ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّهُ حَاكَ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قُلْتُ لَهُ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّهُ حَاكَ أَوْ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَكَّ فِي نَفْسِي شَيْءٌ مِنَ الْمَسْحِ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَهَلْ حَفِظْتَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِيهِ شَيْئًا ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ نَعَمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏كُنَّا إِذَا كُنَّا فِي سَفَرٍ أَوْ مُسَافِرِينَ أُمِرْنَا أَنْ لَا نَخْلَعَ خِفَافَنَا ثَلَاثًا إِلَّا مِنْ جَنَابَةٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَكِنْ مِنْ غَائِطٍ وَبَوْلٍ وَنَوْمٍ . (حديث مرفوع) (حديث موقوف) قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَقُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ فَهَلْ حَفِظْتَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْهَوَى شَيْئًا ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ نَعَمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَقُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ فَهَلْ حَفِظْتَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْهَوَى شَيْئًا ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ نَعَمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي بَعْضِ أَسْفَارِهِ فَنَادَاهُ رَجُلٌ كَانَ فِي آخِرِ الْقَوْمِ بِصَوْتٍ جَهْوَرِيٍّ أَعْرَابِيٌّ جِلْفٌ جَافٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا مُحَمَّدُ يَا مُحَمَّدُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ لَهُ الْقَوْمُ:‏‏‏‏ مَهْ إِنَّكَ قَدْ نُهِيتَ عَنْ هَذَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَجَابَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَحْوًا مِنْ صَوْتِهِ هَاؤُمُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ:‏‏‏‏ يُحِبُّ الْقَوْمَ وَلَمَّا يَلْحَقْ بِهِمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ الْمَرْءُ مَعَ مَنْ أَحَبَّ . (حديث مرفوع) (حديث موقوف) قَالَ قَالَ زِرٌّ:‏‏‏‏ فَمَا بَرِحَ يُحَدِّثُنِي حَتَّى حَدَّثَنِي أَنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ جَعَلَ بِالْمَغْرِبِ بَابًا عَرْضُهُ مَسِيرَةُ سَبْعِينَ عَامًا لِلتَّوْبَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏لَا يُغْلَقُ حَتَّى تَطْلُعِ الشَّمْسُ مِنْ قِبَلِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَذَلِكَ قَوْلُ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ:‏‏‏‏ يَوْمَ يَأْتِي بَعْضُ آيَاتِ رَبِّكَ لا يَنْفَعُ نَفْسًا إِيمَانُهَا سورة الأنعام آية 158 الْآيَةَ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.

زر بن حبیش کہتے ہیں کہ میں صفوان بن عسال مرادی رضی الله عنہ کے پاس آیا، انہوں نے پوچھا: تمہیں کیا چیز یہاں لے کر آئی ہے؟ میں نے کہا: علم حاصل کرنے آیا ہوں، انہوں نے کہا: مجھے یہ حدیث پہنچی ہے کہ ”فرشتے طالب علم کے کام ( و مقصد ) سے خوش ہو کر طالب علم کے لیے اپنے پر بچھا دیتے ہیں“، وہ کہتے ہیں: میں نے کہا: میرے جی میں یہ خیال گزرا یا میرے دل میں موزوں پر مسح کے بارے میں کچھ بات کھٹکی، تو کیا اس بارے میں آپ کو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی کوئی بات یاد ہے؟ انہوں نے کہا: جی ہاں، ہم جب سفر میں ہوں ( یا سفر کرنے والے ہوں ) تو ہمیں حکم دیا گیا کہ ”ہم تین دن تک اپنے موزے پیروں سے نہ نکالیں، سوائے جنابت کی صورت میں، پاخانہ کر کے آئے ہوں یا پیشاب کر کے، یا سو کر اٹھے ہوں تو موزے نہ نکالیں“۔ پھر میں نے ان سے پوچھا: کیا آپ کو محبت و چاہت کے سلسلے میں بھی رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی کوئی بات یا دہے؟ انہوں نے کہا: ہاں، ہم رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ کسی سفر میں تھے تو آپ کو ایک آدمی نے جو لوگوں میں سب سے پیچھے چل رہا تھا اور گنوار، بیوقوف اور سخت مزاج تھا، بلند آواز سے پکارا، کہا: یا محمد! یا محمد! لوگوں نے اس سے کہا: ٹھہر، ٹھہر، اس طرح پکارنے سے تمہیں روکا گیا ہے، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اسے اسی کی طرح بھاری اور بلند آواز میں جواب دیا: ”بڑھ آ، بڑھ آ، آ جا آ جا“ ( وہ جب قریب آ گیا ) تو بولا: آدمی کچھ لوگوں سے محبت کرتا ہے لیکن ان کے درجے تک نہیں پہنچا ہوتا ہے، تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”جو انسان جس سے محبت کرتا ہے اسی کے ساتھ اٹھایا جائے گا“۔ زر کہتے ہیں: وہ مجھ سے حدیث بیان کرتے رہے یہاں تک کہ انہوں نے مجھ سے بیان کیا کہ ”اللہ نے مغرب میں توبہ کا ایک دروازہ بنایا ہے جس کی چوڑائی ستر سال کی مسافت ہے، وہ بند نہ کیا جائے گا یہاں تک کہ سورج ادھر سے نکلنے لگے ( یعنی قیامت تک ) اور اسی سلسلے میں اللہ تعالیٰ کا یہ قول ہے: «يوم يأتي بعض آيات ربك لا ينفع نفسا إيمانها» ”جس دن کہ تیرے رب کی بعض آیات کا ظہور ہو گا اس وقت کسی شخص کو اس کا ایمان کام نہ دے گا“ ( الأنعام: ۱۵۸ ) ۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے۔

Ibn `Umar narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Indeed Allah accepts the repentance of a slave as long as (his soul does not reach his throat).”

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Allah is more delighted with the repentance of one of you, than one of you is, when finding his lost animal.”

Abu Sirmah narrated from Abu Ayyub, that: when death reached him, he said: “I have concealed something I heard from the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) from you. I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying: ‘If you did not sin, Allah would create a creation that would sin, so He will forgive them.’”

Anas bin Malik narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Allah, Blessed is He and Most High, said: ‘O son of Adam! Verily as long as you called upon Me and hoped in Me, I forgave you, despite whatever may have occurred from you, and I did not mind. O son of Adam! Were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky, then you sought forgiveness from Me, I would forgive you, and I would not mind. So son of Adam! If you came to me with sins nearly as great as the earth, and then you met Me not associating anything with Me, I would come to you with forgiveness nearly as great as it.’”

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Allah created a hundred mercies, and He placed one mercy among his creation, they show mercy to one another by it, and there are ninety-nine mercies with Allah.”

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “If the believer knew what is with Allah of punishment, none would hope for Paradise, and if the disbeliever knew what is with Allah of mercy, none would despair of (attaining) Paradise.”
