Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: When this Ayah was revealed: And whether you disclose what is in yourselves or conceal it, Allah will call you to account for it (2:284). Somethings entered their hearts that had not entered before. So they mentioned that to the Prophet (ﷺ) and he said: 'Say: We hear and we obey. So Allah put faith into their hearts and Allah Blessed and Most High revealed the Ayah: The Messenger believes in what has been sent down to him from his Lord, and (so do) the believers (and) Allah does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear, for it is what it has earned and against it is what it has wrought. Our Lord! Punish us not if we forget or fall into error (2:286). He said: 'I have done so (as requested).' Our Lord! Lay not upon us a burden like that which You did upon those before us. He said: ['I have done so (as requested).'] Our Lord! Put not a burden upon us greater than we have strength for. Pardon us and grant us forgiveness. Have mercy on us (2:286). He said: 'I have done so (as requested).'

حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ آدَمَ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ:‏‏‏‏ وَإِنْ تُبْدُوا مَا فِي أَنْفُسِكُمْ أَوْ تُخْفُوهُ يُحَاسِبْكُمْ بِهِ اللَّهُ سورة البقرة آية 284، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ دَخَلَ قُلُوبَهُمْ مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ لَمْ يَدْخُلْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالُوا لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قُولُوا:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا فَأَلْقَى اللَّهُ الْإِيمَانَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى:‏‏‏‏ آمَنَ الرَّسُولُ بِمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ رَبِّهِ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ سورة البقرة آية 285 لا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلا وُسْعَهَا لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا مَا اكْتَسَبَتْ رَبَّنَا لا تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِنْ نَسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا سورة البقرة آية 286 قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَدْ فَعَلْتُ رَبَّنَا وَلا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَا إِصْرًا كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِنَا سورة البقرة آية 286 قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَدْ فَعَلْتُ رَبَّنَا وَلا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِ وَاعْفُ عَنَّا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا سورة البقرة آية 286، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَدْ فَعَلْتُ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ وَقَدْ رُوِيَ هَذَا مِنْ غَيْرِ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَآدَمُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ يُقَالُ هُوَ وَالِدُ يَحْيَى بْنِ آدَمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَفِي الْبَابِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ.

عبداللہ بن عباس رضی الله عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ جب یہ آیت «إن تبدوا ما في أنفسكم أو تخفوه يحاسبكم به الله» نازل ہوئی تو لوگوں کے دلوں میں ایسا خوف و خطر پیدا ہوا جو اور کسی چیز سے پیدا نہ ہوا تھا۔ لوگوں نے یہ بات نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے کہی تو آپ نے فرمایا: ” ( پہلے تو ) تم «سمعنا وأطعنا» کہو یعنی ہم نے سنا اور ہم نے بے چون و چرا بات مان لی، ( چنانچہ انہوں نے ایسا ہی کہا ) تو اللہ نے ان کے دلوں میں ایمان ڈال دیا۔ اور اس کے بعد اللہ تبارک و تعالیٰ نے یہ آیتیں نازل فرمائیں «آمن الرسول بما أنزل إليه من ربه والمؤمنون» سے لے کر آخری آیت «لا يكلف الله نفسا إلا وسعها لها ما كسبت وعليها ما اكتسبت ربنا لا تؤاخذنا إن نسينا أو أخطأنا»،‏‏‏‏ اللہ تعالیٰ نے فرمایا: ”میں نے ایسا کر دیا ( تمہاری دعا قبول کر لی ) “ «ربنا ولا تحمل علينا إصرا كما حملته على الذين من قبلنا» ”ہمارے رب! ہم پر ایسا بوجھ نہ ڈال جیسا تو نے ہم سے پہلے لوگوں پر ڈالا“، اللہ نے فرمایا: ”میں نے تمہارا کہا کر دیا“، «ربنا ولا تحملنا ما لا طاقة لنا به واعف عنا واغفر لنا وارحمنا» ”اے اللہ! ہم پر ایسا بوجھ نہ ڈال جس کی طاقت ہم میں نہ ہو اور ہم سے درگزر فرما، اور ہمیں بخش دے اور ہم پر رحم فرما“، اللہ نے فرمایا: ”میں نے ایسا کر دیا ( یعنی تمہاری دعا قبول کر لی ) “۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- یہ حدیث ابن عباس رضی الله عنہما سے دوسری سند سے بھی مروی ہے، ۳- اس باب میں ابوہریرہ رضی الله عنہ سے بھی روایت ہے۔

Narrated 'Aishah: I asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) about Allah's saying: So, as for those in whose hearts there is a deviation, they follow that which is not entirely clear thereof, seeking Al-Fitnah and seeking its Ta'wil (3:7). He said: 'When you see them, be aware of them.' Yazid (one of the narrators in the chain) said: When you see them, be aware of them' - she said it two or three times.

Narrated 'Aishah: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was asked about this Ayah: 'It is He who sent down to you the Book. In it are Ayat that are entirely clear... (3:7)' until the end of the Ayah. So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'When you see those who seek what is not entirely clear thereof, then it is they whom Allah has described, so beware of them.'

Narrated 'Abdullah: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Every Prophet had a Wali among the Prophets. My Wali is my father Ibrahim the Khalil of my Lord. Then he recited: Verily among mankind who have the best claim to Ibrahim, are those who followed him, and this Prophet and those who have believed. And Allah is the Wali (protector) of the believers (3:68).

Narrated 'Abdullah: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Whoever takes a false oath to deprive a Muslim of his property, he will meet Allah while He is angry with him. So Al-Ash'ath bin Qais said: By Allah! This was about me. There was a dispute between myself and a Jewish man who denied my right, and I complained against him to the Prophet (ﷺ). So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to me: 'Do you have any proof?' I said: 'No.' So he said to the Jew: 'Take an oath.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah! If he takes an oath then I will lose my property.' So Allah, Blessed and Most High, revealed: Verily those who purchase a small gain at the cost of Allah's covenant and their oaths... until the end of the Ayah. (3:77)

Narrated Anas: When this Ayah was revealed: By no means shall you attain Al-Birr unless you spend of that which you love (3:92). Or, '...Who is he that will lend to Allah a goodly loan... (2:245)' Abu Talhah - who had a garden - said: 'O Messenger of Allah! My garden is for Allah, and if I was able to keep it secret I would not make it public.' So he said: 'Keep it for your relatives' or 'your close relatives.'

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: A man stood before the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: 'Who is the (real) Hajj pilgrim, O Messenger of Allah!' He said: 'The one with dishevelled hair who smells bad.' So another man stood and said: 'Which Hajj is most virtuous, O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'The one with loud voices and blood (of the sacrifice).' Another man stood and said: 'What is 'the means', O Messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Provisions and a mount.'
