Wa'il bin Hujr said: I arrived in Al-Madinah and I said, 'Let me look at the Salat of Allah's Messenger.' When he sat - meaning for At-Tashah-hud - he spread his left foot, and placed his left hand - meaning on his left thigh - and held his right foot erect.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ كُلَيْبٍ الْجَرْمِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ وَائِلِ ابْنِ حُجْرٍ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَدِمْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ لَأَنْظُرَنَّ إِلَى صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَمَّا جَلَسَ يَعْنِي لِلتَّشَهُّدِ افْتَرَشَ رِجْلَهُ الْيُسْرَى وَوَضَعَ يَدَهُ الْيُسْرَى يَعْنِي عَلَى فَخِذِهِ الْيُسْرَى وَنَصَبَ رِجْلَهُ الْيُمْنَى قَالَ 12 أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالْعَمَلُ عَلَيْهِ عِنْدَ أَكْثَرِ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُوَ قَوْلُ:‏‏‏‏ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيِّ وَأَهْلِ الْكُوفَةِ وَابْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ.
وائل بن حجر رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں   میں مدینے آیا تو میں نے ( اپنے جی میں ) کہا کہ میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی نماز ضرور دیکھوں گا۔ ( چنانچہ میں نے دیکھا ) جب آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم تشہد کے لیے بیٹھے تو آپ نے اپنا بایاں پیر بچھایا اور اپنا بایاں ہاتھ اپنی بائیں ران پر رکھا اور اپنا دایاں پیر کھڑا رکھا۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- اکثر اہل علم کا اسی پر عمل ہے، اور یہی سفیان ثوری، اہل کوفہ اور ابن مبارک کا بھی قول ہے۔

Abbas bin SAhl [bin Sa'd] narrated: Abu Humaid, Abu Usaid, Sahl bin Sa'd, and Muhammad bin Maslamah were once together and they were mentioning the Salat of Allah's Messenger. Abu Humaid said: I am the most knowledgeable among you of the Salat of Allah's Messenger: Indeed Allah's Messenger sat - meaning for Tashah-hud - he spread his left foot, and made the top of his right (foot) face the Qiblah, and he placed his right hand on his right knee, and his left hand on his left knee, and indicated with his finger - meaning the index finge.'

Ibn Umar narrated: When the Prophet would sit during the Salat, he would place his right hand on his knee, and raise his finger, the one that is next to the [right] thumb, supplicating with it, and his left hand was spread flat on his left knee.
