Abbas bin SAhl [bin Sa'd] narrated: Abu Humaid, Abu Usaid, Sahl bin Sa'd, and Muhammad bin Maslamah were once together and they were mentioning the Salat of Allah's Messenger. Abu Humaid said: I am the most knowledgeable among you of the Salat of Allah's Messenger: Indeed Allah's Messenger sat - meaning for Tashah-hud - he spread his left foot, and made the top of his right (foot) face the Qiblah, and he placed his right hand on his right knee, and his left hand on his left knee, and indicated with his finger - meaning the index finge.'

حَدَّثَنَا بُنْدَارٌ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ الْعَقَدِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا فُلَيْحُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْمَدَنِيُّ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبَّاسُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ السَّاعِدِيُّ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ اجْتَمَعَ أَبُو حُمَيْدٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَأَبُو أُسَيْدٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَسَهْلُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَذَكَرُوا صَلَاةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ أَبُو حُمَيْدٍ:‏‏‏‏ أَنَا أَعْلَمُكُمْ بِصَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَلَسَ يَعْنِي لِلتَّشَهُّدِ فَافْتَرَشَ رِجْلَهُ الْيُسْرَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَقْبَلَ بِصَدْرِ الْيُمْنَى عَلَى قِبْلَتِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَوَضَعَ كَفَّهُ الْيُمْنَى عَلَى رُكْبَتِهِ الْيُمْنَى وَكَفَّهُ الْيُسْرَى عَلَى رُكْبَتِهِ الْيُسْرَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَشَارَ بِأُصْبُعِهِ يَعْنِي السَّبَّابَةَ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَبِهِ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ بَعْضُ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُوَ قَوْلُ الشافعي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَحْمَدَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِسْحَاق، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ يَقْعُدُ فِي التَّشَهُّدِ الْآخِرِ عَلَى وَرِكِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَاحْتَجُّوا بِحَدِيثِ أَبِي حُمَيْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ يَقْعُدُ فِي التَّشَهُّدِ الْأَوَّلِ عَلَى رِجْلِهِ الْيُسْرَى وَيَنْصِبُ الْيُمْنَى

عباس بن سہل ساعدی کہتے ہیں کہ ابوحمید، ابواسید، سہل بن سعد اور محمد بن مسلمہ رضی الله عنہم اکٹھے ہوئے، تو ان لوگوں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی نماز کا ذکر کیا۔ اس پر ابوحمید کہنے لگے کہ میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی نماز کو تم میں سب سے زیادہ جانتا ہوں، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم تشہد کے لیے بیٹھتے تو آپ اپنا بایاں پیر بچھاتے ۱؎ اور اپنے دائیں پیر کی انگلیوں کے سروں کو قبلہ کی طرف متوجہ کرتے، اور اپنی داہنی ہتھیلی داہنے گھٹنے پر اور بائیں ہتھیلی بائیں گھٹنے پر رکھتے، اور اپنی انگلی ( انگشت شہادت ) سے اشارہ کرتے۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- یہی بعض اہل علم کہتے ہیں اور یہی شافعی، احمد اور اسحاق بن راہویہ کا بھی قول ہے، یہ لوگ کہتے ہیں کہ اخیر تشہد میں اپنے سرین پر بیٹھے، ان لوگوں نے ابوحمید کی حدیث سے دلیل پکڑی ہے۔ ان کا کہنا ہے کہ پہلے تشہد میں بائیں پیر پر بیٹھے اور دایاں پیر کھڑا رکھے۔

Ibn Umar narrated: When the Prophet would sit during the Salat, he would place his right hand on his knee, and raise his finger, the one that is next to the [right] thumb, supplicating with it, and his left hand was spread flat on his left knee.

Abdullah narrated: The Prophet would say the Salam from his right and from his left (saying): (As-Salamu alaikum wa rahmatullah, as-Salamu alaikum wa rahmatullah) 'Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy. Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy.'

Aishah narrated: Allah's Messenger would say one Taslim for the Salat while facing forward and turning to his right side a little.

Aishah narrated: When Allah's Messenger said the Salam he would not remain seated except long enough to say: (Allahumma antas-salam, wa minkas-salam, tabarakta dhal jalali wal-Ikram) 'O Allah! You are the One free of defects, and perfection is from You. Blessed are You, Possessor of Majesty and Honor.'
